Season 7 of the UK's most popular online CS tournament is now well underway, so as things start hotting up we thought we'd take a look at what to expect from this week's action.
This map should provide some interesting games. It's changed greatly from de_clan2_fire, the map that used to be played - the underpass and mid section were completely revamped and extra routes added. It barely feels like the old version except in use of texture and art.
Tactically it's a complex map especially for CTs. Basic positioning as CT's isn't effective, a combination of tactics involving several styles is needed. As Terrorists the map can be tactically daunting. With so many routes available there is a lot of choice and it's possible to succeed using many different methods whether it be a straight rush, a pickoff, a split, a fake, a double fake or a fluid style. Usually a map will favour a small number of options and certain tactics are almost suicidal.
It strikes me as being very similar to de_dust2 in that the Terrorist team usually takes the most rounds but an organised CT defence can prevail if they play smart and have good tactics.
A few things about the league to remind you of:
Division One has some new faces this season, a good mixture of promotions and new clans to BWCSL. The move-ups from last season are: Warped Reality, TCSUK and The Incarnate. The new clans are: Team Letters, EnD and Barcodes. Sadly barcodes have had to become inactive over the exam period and can no longer compete this season. With all matches being postponed in the first week due to server problems, Division One has only had 2 weeks of play.
Last seasons Champions Last Chance have made a good start to the season. A 13-3 win over two of the move-up clans - The Incarnate and TCSUK showed off their ability. However tougher matches will follow so they shouldn't be complacent.
Optical Illusion were tied on points with Last Chance last season and lost the title due to a defeat at their hand earlier in the Season. A 13-3 win over Barcodes in their first match and a 13-4 win over Warped Reality shows they are out to try and secure the title this season.
PK and Kensai both have a default win apiece but have had a match postponed vs. the replacements for iM - Israeli clan EnD. EnD are somewhat of an unknown factor for most clans I feel and due to their late entry they have yet to play.
Warped Reality made a good start defeating defeating their opposite number from last season The Incarnate. The second week of play put them up against last season's runners up and the difference in experience showed. They lost 13-4 to O:i and should be hoping for a mid table result this season.
At the bottom of the table for the moment are TCSUK and The Incarnate. TCSUK lost to Last Chance in their first match and failed to make a strong enough impact against team Letters going down 13-7. The Incarnate lost to Warped Reality in the first week and then faced Last Chance in the second week. TCSUK and TI were both moveups from last seasons Division 2's. And unless they pick themselves up fairly soon I forsee they will be there again next season.
There haven't been any really close Division 1 games so far, the closest being 13-7. Hopefully we'll see some nail-biters from here on in. Predictions for this division:
The Incarnate vs. EnD
I think TI will come out firing wanting to pick up their first win, and I don't think EnDs' pings will help matters. EnD could come out of this winners but they will really need to prepare for the map.
Optical Illusion vs. TCSUK
I think O:i are too strong for TCSUK and should take this fairly comfortably. However if O:i don't prepare for the map very well and TCSUK do, then we could be in for an upset.
Last Chance vs. PK
PK are a good side but Last Chance are just too strong. I think whatever either clan have done to prepare Last Chance will take this.
Team Letters vs. Kensai
This could be a close match and could go either way. Again preparation is the key with this map.
This is going to be a close division for sure. 3 Weeks in and UFO, SODA, elevation.uk, Ants and Maim are all undefeated so far, it's going to be close among those 5. With the exception of UFO, all the other clans have a game in hand, and could take the lead next week.
UFO have taken an early lead having played all three games so far. They won convincingly over BFTD in Week 1 and a had 5v4 victory over an unfortunate Riotgear in Week 2. In week 3 came an interesting fixture versus another title contender - Maim. I admined this game and can say just how close it was. The final round saw UFO come out 12-12, just enough to keep them on top of the division for now.
SODA beating DH 13-11 in a nailbiter on de_prodigy and edged out 4D 13-10 in a close game on de_train. SODA are looking like contenders for the playoffs and will be hoping for some wins over their close rivals.
Elevation with a default over withdrawn Indecisive, and a 13-7 over DH are looking like another team in the running for the playoffs. They were promoted last season and might be hoping for the same again.
Ants should be a strong contender for this division and proved it by picking up a 13-2 win over DH early on. Their match vs elevation was postponed and they picked up a default in week 3 over Indecesive.
Maim's season only really kicked off with UFO. Their first match against 4D was postponed, in the second week a default over Indecisive and in the third a tie with UFO. Maim were looking strong before the season had started and I feel they've let it slip, they need to come back strong and win their next few games if they want promotion.
4D have made a somewhat shaky start. With a narrow win over BFTD on de_prodigy and a close loss to SODA on de_train. They need to pick their game up if they want to finish in the top half of this season.
BFTD started the season with a 13-6 loss to UFO, and followed it with a 13-11 loss against 4D. They picked their game up in the third week however and defeated RiotGear 13-10 on de_train.
Riotgear made a bad start to the season. Their first game was postponed and they were forced to play shorthanded vs UFO in week 2 when a player dropped several rounds in. They made a better effort against BFTD but could only make 10 rounds.
Disposeable Hero's have had a bad start as well. They finished this division in a playoff spot last season and were unlucky not to gain promotion. Many people thought they would make it this season. A 13-2 defeat against a hot Ants wasn't the best of starts. They then lost 13-11 to SODA on de_prodigy and missed out again vs. Elevation.uk. I feel that they have blown their playoff spot already unless they win all their remaining games and some upsets in other teams results occur, possibly the English Cricket Squad of BWCSL?
Indecisive have dropped from the division due to payment problems. The predictions for this divisions upcoming matches are:
UFO vs. Elevation
This could go either way. It's all about who prepares for the map the most. I think this match will end up 13-10 or close and I really couldn't call it.
Ants vs. SODA
I think Ants will pick up the win here although we could see an upset if
SODA have prepared well.
DH vs. BFTD
At the start of the season I'd have bet my house on DH winning this one. As it stands I think BFTD will edge it.
RG vs. Maim
Really not a contest. Maim will be wanting to prove last week was a slip-up and I don't think RG can stand in their way.
4D > Indecisive ( Default )
Three weeks have now been played in division 2 blue and it's looking a little clearer who the real contenders for promotion will be. Meatyballs stand at the top of the table at the end of the week. Meatyballs played twice in week 2 and gained the full four points. Decisive wins against Harmless and GiR and a good win in this Thursday's clash with Snipers Alley - have moved them above their rivals with whom they were on level points. Another tough match for them next week against Blacklight, another victory and it will be hard to see anyone catching them this season.
SA lost their opening game to Unity but on inspection of the HLTV demos by a team of admins it was believed that a member of the Unity team was using some form of wallhack. As per the rules the match was reversed to a default win for SA. SA picked up a further two points in more unhappy circumstances when jEt failed to field a team for their de_prodigy encounter. Losing to Meatyballs this week has set back SA somewhat, though they are strongly placed and still have it in their power to make this season a success.
In the first week GiR could not upset the expectations most people have that Blacklight will go on to win this division, going down 13-4. Blacklight ran into Neo on the second week though their game was postponed. It should be played now at the end of the season with any other postponed matches. Their match against e.sys in week 3 was a spectators classic, with seven rounds left in the game e.sys needed 1 round to draw or 2 for the win. Blacklight at this point found their feet and won all seven rounds to take the game 13-11. Meatyballs are their next opponent and if they are able to win there they will have gone a long way to making this division theirs.
e.sys didn't had to work too hard to achieve full points after just one match. Their first encounter versus Neo resulted in a default win to them. Trouble with Unity following the Snipers Alley incident resulted in the week 2 game being postponed. Blacklight on Thursday proved to be a tough test with e.sys almost having the points in their hands before Blacklight refused to lose any more rounds and won the game.
Harmless haven't had the best start following their promotion to division 2, losing initially to Meatyballs. They were drawn against Spirited:7 for their week 2 match but following S:7's departure from the league they ended up getting the default win. Their week 3 match was postponed due to clan request.
jEt's progress last season in division 2 as Ketamine was perhaps desultory due to trouble with player attendance and disappointing performances. Their new guise as jEt unfortunately has followed in the same manner during week 2 giving a default win to Snipers Alley. Hopefully the clan can unlock its potential in future weeks and deliver the performances that people expect from them. Like Harmless they also picked up a default win against S:7, though in the first week. Their week 3 match against Harmless was postponed due to clan request.
Neo and Unity have both had bad starts to the season though for very different reasons. Neo due to internal clan difficulties have found themselves having to default one game and postpone the other - however they are looking like they have gone some way to resolving their problems after beating GiR this week.
Unity looked to have got off to a great start initially defeating Snipers Alley. But after the joint admin decision that one of their team had cheated during the match they have been left with no points and their chances of success this season reduced. After postponing their week 2 match and a default win in week 3, they should have had the time to get their squad ready to rebuild their season.
GiR are at the bottom of the pile of active clans following defeats in all three of their opening games. To their credit their first two games are likely to be among the toughest they will face all season so there is room for them to come back and make a respectable finish.
As already mentioned Spirited:7 have left the league following the reported departure of sh33py from the clan. Should matters improve with S:7 their place in the league is still warm - though it will be a difficult start for them. The predictions for this division are:
e.sys vs. SA
Could go either way, at a pinch I would say e.sys to win.
Blacklight vs. MB
Big game that will shape the division, I think Blacklight will take it.
GiR vs. jEt
jEt still to play a game this season but if they make this their first they should win it.
Harmless vs. Unity
In their return to playing, Unity I would say are favourites.
Neo get a default win from spirited
This teams in this division have only played 2 games as the opening night was postponed. colt killaz made a good start to the season defeating Ming.uk 13-11 on prodigy. In their second week of play they faced CSE and took the win 13-6 on de_train. ck should finish in the upper echelons of this division.
Defy Logic also made an excellent start with a 13-0 victory over =[M]=. Their match on train proved a little tougher but was still a comfortable victory over Xpedient Demise : 13-7.
MAWR had a tough season last time round. Almost all their matches were close defeats. due to lack of preperation, and they evaded relegation with a narrow win over Insane. With only 2 wins last season they have already equalled last season, and I think if they keep up their practice they should finish in the top half of the table.
Xpedient Demise have made a good start so far. With a 13-1 Victory in their opening week over PUB they lost a tough game against DL in their second week of play who I forsee topping this division. xpd should be aiming for the top half of the table this season.
The Marines have shown they can win by defeating LB, a team that missed last seasons playoffs by a single point, in a 13-9 game on de_prodigy. They then slipped and lost heavily to =[M]= 13-3 on de_train. If they pick themselves up and put the practice in they should place well again this season.
Ming.uk made a shaky start losing 13-11 to the colt killaz in their first week. In the second week they annihilated LBS 13-2 on de_train and should have a good season.
=[M]= were somewhat unlucky having to play my favourites to win this division in their first week. They went down a little too easily and failed to pick up a round. They picked themselves up though and faced TM on de_train and came away with a solid 13-3 win. The clan appears to be a bit of a mixed bag at the moment but hopefully they will keep on form and we'll see some good games from them.
PUB have had a bad start to this season. Their results speak for themselves. A 13-1 loss against xpd and a 13-0 defeat against MAWR. I can't see them beating too many clans in this division but there is always hope.
Last seasons playoffs contenders LBS have also had a bad start, or maybe they pulled a stacked division, who knows? A close defeat against TM in the opening week, but they slipped and lost heavily against Ming.uk in week 3. They need some wins to get off the bottom of the division.
CSE have had a troubled start losing both games 13-6 to MAWR and ck. If they pick their game up they could place in the mid of the division. The predictions for this division are:
xpd vs. Ming.uk
This match could decide who goes to the playoffs or not. I think both teams could take it but Ming.uk are my favourites.
MAWR vs. =[M]=
MAWR look to be the stronger side, I can't see =[M]= challenging for this game.
DL vs. LBS
In their current state I can't see LBS giving DL a challenge this week.
CSE vs. PUB
This match could well decide who finishes bottom. I think CSE should edge it but who knows what can happen.
TM vs. ck
This match has been postponed at one teams request.
D1UK sit on top of the table after winning each game so far this season. After not securing their promotion slot from division 4 until the last week of season 6 it did seem that the clan would find it hard at this level of the league. Their first game against last season's promotion playoff contenders pp they upset expectations with a 13-4 victory. Their victory in the second week against tbz coupled with a default win from MMX puts them one point clear at the top. However they are yet to play the stronger performing sides in their division and this will be the true test of their capabilities, the first such test will be against third placed [bsq] in week 4.
CIX take the second spot at this stage with five points. CIX saw off MMX in the first week for 2 points but the following two matches haven't been so easy for them. SK-187 forced them all the way to a 12-12 draw and pp kept a close scoring game against them which CIX eventually won 13-10. If they wish to stay high placed in the table they will need to do a bit more to keep their opponents out of the game, especially facing strong performers like TG next week.
After barely missing out on promotion in season 5, season 6 was spent at the wrong end of division 3 steering away from relegation for [bsq]. Confident wins against SK-187 and tbz give them their four points so far this season, a 13-11 defeat against TG leaving them a hairs breadth away from gaining more. However with one defeat they can't really afford to lose another game if they are serious about promotion this time around, D1UK will be hoping to spoil their plans next week.
TG are the other clan that at this stage is looking like competing for the top. Though only playing one game in which they defeated [bsq], they have also earnt a default win to give them four points. Having beat [bsq] and defeated CIX last season they look like potential candidates to be up there at the end of the season.
If four clans aren't enough to be competing for the top, perhaps as an outside bet you could take KEA. They've played and won only 1 game so far this season and are freshly promoted from division 4.. who knows that surprises they may hold?
The rest of table consists of MMX on 2 points, SK-187 on 1 point and pp, tbz and TCUK on 0 points. MMX may be withdrawing from the league and in which case their earlier victory over pp will be reversed and all future matches involving MMX defaulted. The predictions for this division are:
D1UK vs. [bsq]
A match that could potentially derail both clans promotion hopes. I think it will be close with [bsq] taking the points.
KEA vs. pp
A hard match to call, I think if pp can field a full team they will be victorious here.
MMX vs. SK-187
If MMX have returned from inactivity I feel they will win, else it will be a default to SK-187.
CIX vs. TG
A victory for TG I feel.
TCUK vs. tbz
I think tbz will take the points to move away from the foot of the table.
The Green group of division 3 and after three games a clan called Herb is top of the pile? Sounds like clan and league were made for each other from their names and their relationship with this division so far hasn't let them down with six points in their account. Finesse came the closest to taking points from them narrowly losing in a close 13-11 showdown. Herb's other four points came with an easier win over Phobia and a default win. Their first season in BWCSL is looking to be a prosperous one for them, week 4 takes them to play 5SI with the chance of extending their lead further.
Last Ones to Run are in second place with five points. They are also new for this BWCSL season, wins against 5SI and YO and a draw at Phobia have got them to their current place. The week 4 match against TD should be a battle for them, though TD have not been able to field a full team consistently this season.
After losing to Herb in their first game played, the closeness of the game perhaps suggests that Finesse will strongly be gaining points to catch Herb at the top of the table as the season progresses. With a victory at Phobia and a default win this hasn't been displayed yet, but most people expect Finesse to finish high this season.
The middle of this table is looking close and it is hard to see at this stage how it will separate. cr4p are the best placed with 3 points but a game in hand which could take them away from the pack. YO, 5SI, TD and UOCUK are all similarly placed, all of them still able to make a drive for glory - but if they wish to do it they have to start soon before the distance from the top of the table becomes too great. Phobia are at the bottom of the active clans at this stage but to their credit they have played Herb, LOTR and Finesses at this stage, if they aren't demoralized from these matches they can start picking up points in their other games for a respectable league finish.
Demonskillz were due to join the league to replace VI who were moved to division 4. However promised payment was not delivered and any teams fixtured to play this clan are awarded a default win. The predictions for this division are:
Phobia vs. Yo
I think Phobia will win here, though I don't think easily.
5SI vs. Herb
I don't see 5SI being able to stop Herbs advance in this game, but chance for them to prove me wrong.
Finesse vs. UOCUK
Finesse should take the points here.
TD vs. LOTR
I have a feeling that with a fully assembled team TD will win here.
cr4p are fixed to play demonskillz and get a default win
Lack of interest in playing in division 4 has meant it hasn't expanded beyond eight clans like the rest of the leagues suggesting a potential restructuring of the lower leagues at the end of the season.
Clan sys not carrying through the payment of their BWCSL application reduced this to a 7 clan league at the opening of the season and with cs-sappers defaulting their first game to PUK only 2 games took place in the first week.
After being relegated from Division 3 Yellow last season In[SANE] started off to reclaiming their division 3 place well with a comfortable 13-3 victory against Belgian newcomers Natural Born Boogie.
Narrowly missing out on promotion last season aWe were also on form to not miss out this time around. After finishing last but one in division 3 blue last season VI were moved to the 4th division. Their division 3 experience could not prevent them from losing 13-7 to aWe.
In week 3 of the season aWe and In[SANE] both won again. aWe had been touted to lose against Swant but gave further signs that this season will be a good one for them with a 13-4 victory. PUK pushed hard against In[SANE] but could not avoid a 13-10 defeat.
Natural Born Boogie achieved their first win in the BWCSL in their match against cs-sappers. After a long delay for the game to start Boogie turned down the offer of a default win and chose to play against the late arriving sappers. They won the game 13-8 and face league leaders aWe next week. The predictions for this divison are:
VI v In[SANE]
I think that VI will give In[SANE] a close match but I think In[SANE] will prevail to keep at the top of the table.
aWe v N!3!3
Unfortunately for Boogie I think aWe have looked too good in their opening two games and I think they will win here too.
cs-sappers v Swant
Swant should prevail in this game but I wouldn't say that the game is beyond the sappers capabilities, if they can pull together and organize.
PUK earn a default win from sys

Also 2nd last round as T we had 3 vs 2 and lost =/
