There have been several rumbles as of late regarding a gaming competition of some importance taking place in China named the World e-Sports Games. Whilst it has been difficult to locate an official website for the event there is a handful of information scattered around the net. NoA were the first to put the event on the map and release some details with the announcement that they had accepted an invitation to the competition.
As of now, we've accepted an invitation to the World E-Sports Games in Korea, which is an 8 team invitational-only league, starting at the end of January going well into March.
Today Team Gamer Co who finished 3rd at the recently CPL Winter World Championships, announced that they too had accepted an invitiation and also announced several other pieces of information about the event.
Team Gamer Co. has been officially invited to participate in the 2 month long invitational league in Korea known as the World e-Sports Games (WEG).Only 8 teams in the world are invited, those include: NoA, Gamer Co., 2 Korea Teams, 2 Chinese Teams, and 2 out of SK.swe, EYE, Titans, and Mouz.
Details are still slim at the moment, but the first season of the league will start 1/22/05 and end on 3/20/05 with the championship held in Forbidden City, China. Also the map format will probably be best of 3.
Midway over at Gotfrag got to the bottom of it, even digging up a press release from the organisers.
The Koreans are at it again with the WEG 2005. Don’t get it confused with the WCG, it’s the World E-sports Games. The timetable for this new league is very soon as matches will start in late January. The concept for the CS end is eight invited teams, current reports have it with four Asian teams and four European/American teams with $95,000 in prizes.
Another press release is anticipated for sometime this week, but for now the following information has been publically announced by the organisers.
WEG2005, the event provide joy and pleasure to worldwide e-sports gamers and fans, will raise its curtain at January 30, 2005. To making WEG2005 to be the world's best professional e-sports league, Istarzone, the leading e-sports company in Korea, will invite finest players from all over the world. This event will run for a whole year, it is completely different than any other e-sports event. The whole season will consist of four regular seasons and The World Championship. The World Championship will hold at the end of the year with regular seasons' winners.
UKT will try to keep you updated with information regarding this event, if, and when, it comes. To compete in the event teams will be required to live in China for a substantial period of time, and thus only those with secure financial backing will be able to attend.

Yeh i'm sure they're kicking themselves for being American now!
Speculative rumour being passed around the web at the moment. SK are going through some sort of 'change' no-one's quite sure what, or why. Complexity Syndicate are due to make a "major" announcement in January, could we put two and two together? [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

The games take place in Seoul, South Korea, with the tournaments to be held in major cities around the world. It will not be held in Forbidden City, China--that is an incorrect rumor.
As for finances, WEG will be providing the teams with airfare, rooms, food, and even a training room.
Of course, I say all of this "unofficially". [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]
