Information for this year's UK World Cyber Games qualifiers is now available. Preliminaries will take place at Multiplay's i21 in Newbury from the 27th - 31st August. The finals will then be held at ECTS (Earl's Court, London) from the 1st - 3rd September.
Information regarding the format and games is limited but we can expect a press release from Multiplay very shortly. According to the Official WCG site there appears to be one qualification place for CS:CZ, 1 for FIFA and 4 for UT2004.
The event itself is being developed by Samsung.UK following iGUK's decision not to hold the event anymore. Ironically iGUK will be involved with the running of the European Online Gaming Championships from the 1st - 5th September at Excel in London.
The only statement that can currently be found online regarding the UK World Cyber Games is on the ECTS website.

The good features it has such as being able to pick up grenades are far outweighed by the terrible registry on the bots and the redone textures, the valve-naming of areas for where radio messages are sent from etc.
Anybody who pays for CZ has every right to feel robbed of their money. I'd be reluctant to pay the price play.com offer for it [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

Other than reminding the world that Counter-Strike is still "the world’s number one online action game," Valve gave no other details on the beta. However, Valve head Gabe Newell did demonstrate Counter-Strike: Source at this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo.

normal maps in the CZ engine, only real change will be the models / sounds and the radar i guess.
Not sure if any of the netcode is different in CZ, when i played it, it all seemed very similar. Thought it played better but thats maybe due to the awful standard of the players on the servers
thanks kev :X [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

WCG a bit bigger than iguk i'd imagine. Be interesting to see which event has the more registrations, shame they weren't arranged to be on different days [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

"The games chosen for the UK leg are:
* Counter Strike: Condition Zero (PC)
* Unreal Tournament 2004 (PC)
* Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne (PC)
* Project Gotham Racing 2 (XBOX)
The preliminaries will take place at the i21 LAN event at Newbury, Berkshire over 27-30 August. i21 is the latest in the i-series of LAN events run by Multiplay UK, which are the largest events of their kind in the UK. Featuring many hundreds of attendees, i21 is a non-stop 4-day multiplayer gaming fest including a huge BYOC (Bring Your Own Computer) arena, organised tournaments, exhibition and demonstration areas and some great organised social events.
The gamers who qualify at the i21 preliminaries will then go on to compete in the UK finals at Earls Court, London at ECTS (the European Computer Trade Show) over 1-3 September. The winners of the UK finals will then be flown out expenses-paid to represent the UK at the World Finals in San Francisco in October."
And apparently there will be 'limited' turn up and play slots at i21, and NO slots on offer at ECTS itself, you have to qualify. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]
