This one slipped us all by. The website for the 2005 UK World Cyber Games qualifiers has been launched. This year's national partner is UK service provider Jolt.
Hello and welcome to the United Kingdom qualifying homepage for the WorldCyberGames 2005 Tournament. This year the qualification process to represent the United Kingdom at the Gaming equivalent of the Olympics is being organised by Jolt, the UK's leading Gaming Service Provider.
We'll be offering players the chance to compete at both offline & online events for a place in the National Final where the cream of UK gaming talent will go head-to-head for some excellent prizes and, of course, the chance to fly all-expenses paid to Singapore for the Grand Final in November. Check back regularly over the coming weeks for more details on the qualification process.
Not much information on there at present, except that the selected games appear to be: CS: Source, FIFA 2005, NFSU 2, SC: BW, WC3: TFT, Warhammer 40,000, DoA Ultimate and Halo 2. One snippet of news released by Jolt is that the first WCG pre-qualifier will be held at the Edinburgh Interactive Entertainment Festival in "mid-august" (10th - 14th August). Led the road to Singapore commence.

iGUK have a FFA50 concept which we use for the majority of our events now. We give away a £50 prize every night. Basically (and mainly for deathmatch style games) we allocate the players that sign up into FFA servers for a 30 minute session of the game. At the end we enter the scores into a database which convert the frags into tickets. So if you get 50 frags, you get 50 tickets, if you get 10 frags, you get 10 tickets. We then draw one ticket (every night) and whichever player has been allocated that ticket numbers wins £50. So if you get the most frags, you're most likely to win, but even if you're an awful player, and only get 1 kill, you can still win. It's not good for pro events obviously, but it's great fun for iGUK centre customers. We're a LAN-version of this as part of the gaming exhibit at EIEF. Different games, and giving away £50 like, every hour. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

Quicker to get to Paris though.
I think that comment was a bit harsh Bigwest, i know a lot of gamers that travelled from the south-east to Hull (4 - 6 hour journey) for LAN events. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]
