Italy) in October of this year. To decide which teams will attend this event, three regional events will be held. These will be held at major consumer events around the world:
The major news is the inclusion of Counter-Strike 1.6 in this year's event. It has replaced Counter-Strike source as the CS game of choice. WCG had previously used the latest versions of CS: Source in '05 and Condition Zero in '04. The WCG council have explained the shift back to the original is due to player feedback and an attempt to provide better qualifing tournaments:
"In addition, the Counter-Strike competition has been changed from ‘Source’ to ‘1.6’ to facilitate better operation of tournaments leading up to the Grand Final. This move comes as a result of player feedback on the World Cyber Games website following last year’s successful event in Singapore."
