Walle Joins NiP, mTw.ati pursue legal action

Losing four of the world's most experienced gamers was a terrible blow to HeatoN and Potti of the legendary NiP line-up. In a recent gotfrag interview HeatoN gave no clue as to who would be in the next line-up, except that finding new players was difficult as most were either going to WEG2 or under-contract.

Today mTw.ati announced that the player regarded by most as last year's most-improved, Dennis ‘walle’ Wallenberg, had decided to break his 12-month contract with the organisation by joining NiP.

mTw.ATI will pursue all legal options available in regards to his decision. We believe that the word “professional” is a fundamental part of our future growth as a community and as a sport. Therefor we do not have any respect for Walle’s actions nor NiP’s approach of handling matters.

We always believed in players we’ve recruited – unfortunately we’ve been hugely disappointed this time. Besides the management and main organization, the remaining players in the team are those who really lost today. They’ve dedicated a huge part of their life to this game and team but in this case one player just didn’t care.

The legal action pursued by mTw.ati regarding Walle's breach of contract could have far reaching ramifications and set a precedent for all similar issues. Are contracts really worth the paper they are written on if players can up and leave as soon as a better (debatable in current eSports climate) offer comes along?

For mTw.ati just a few days before they head off to South-Korea a replacement was of the most urgent priority. In comes ex-SpiXel member, Petter "iLight" Andersson.

In this case the player was under contract AND going to weg 2, never stopped them though. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

No, legal action over the breaking of a signed legally binding contract. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

Yes, this is what happens when you try and make something as trivial as a computer game serious ...

or you could say that this is what happens at the beginning of any process in the step forward to professionalism. Things don't just work out straight away, it'll probably be more pro soon! [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

Apparently mTw never fulfilled parts of contract on their part too so it'll be interesting to see if their case falls apart. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

Yeah but DoZ, most of the people that play this game are pretty young as far as life goes nothing would come of legal action anyway. They wont exactly sue them or put them in prison because of their age and people like Walle know they can get away with it so they'll do what they like.

In general, its a joke all this attempt at professionalism. At the end of the day CS (or any game) can only be as popular as the amount of people play it. I doubt spectators would want to watch CS if they were just your average joe who'd not played computer games before.

If I'm not mistaken this is the first time legal action is being taken over a contract within esports and will probably be quite an imporant development in terms of turning cs into a pro sport. It could set a precedent for the future.

It'll be interesting to see the developments but there are too many stumbling blocks for this legal action to every materialise, or even if it does, to work in the favour of mTw. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

what the hell are they gonna sue him for not going 2 weg because mtw didn't pay him by the time it's due walle did not recieve his payment at the date it was due therefore he stated he would not go to weg2 because he had bills to pay etc but seing as mtw broke the contract in the first place by not paying the player his wages by the agreed date dosen't that mean the contract is void.
