Losing four of the world's most experienced gamers was a terrible blow to HeatoN and Potti of the legendary NiP line-up. In a recent gotfrag interview HeatoN gave no clue as to who would be in the next line-up, except that finding new players was difficult as most were either going to WEG2 or under-contract.
Today mTw.ati announced that the player regarded by most as last year's most-improved, Dennis ‘walle’ Wallenberg, had decided to break his 12-month contract with the organisation by joining NiP.
mTw.ATI will pursue all legal options available in regards to his decision. We believe that the word “professional” is a fundamental part of our future growth as a community and as a sport. Therefor we do not have any respect for Walle’s actions nor NiP’s approach of handling matters. We always believed in players we’ve recruited – unfortunately we’ve been hugely disappointed this time. Besides the management and main organization, the remaining players in the team are those who really lost today. They’ve dedicated a huge part of their life to this game and team but in this case one player just didn’t care.
The legal action pursued by mTw.ati regarding Walle's breach of contract could have far reaching ramifications and set a precedent for all similar issues. Are contracts really worth the paper they are written on if players can up and leave as soon as a better (debatable in current eSports climate) offer comes along?
For mTw.ati just a few days before they head off to South-Korea a replacement was of the most urgent priority. In comes ex-SpiXel member, Petter "iLight" Andersson.

or you could say that this is what happens at the beginning of any process in the step forward to professionalism. Things don't just work out straight away, it'll probably be more pro soon! [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

In general, its a joke all this attempt at professionalism. At the end of the day CS (or any game) can only be as popular as the amount of people play it. I doubt spectators would want to watch CS if they were just your average joe who'd not played computer games before.

It'll be interesting to see the developments but there are too many stumbling blocks for this legal action to every materialise, or even if it does, to work in the favour of mTw. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]
