UKESA Cancelled

Posted by Myers at 10:50 2/4/2005.

This year's Spring's constant LAN wars have unfortunately claimed another scalp. Electronic Sports LTD have taken the decision to cancel their previously rescheduled UKESA LAN due to a lack of signups. Electronic Sports LTD director, Morgan Withers released this statement.

We regret to announce that after some further consideration we have decided to cancel the UKESA LAN that was to be held at CyberGamesZone in Newcastle until further notice. We are however extremely excited to announce that we will be launching some of our other sections within UKESA in the coming months and will be actively looking for an alternative more central venue. Some things to come in the next few months are:
  • Online Tournaments
  • Online Leagues
We will also be looking to bolster our shop with some more items which should materialise in the coming weeks. Apologies to anyone who was planning to attend this event and we hope you will consider attending in the future.

With LANs taking place on an almost bi-weekly basis at present it has become a considerable stretch upon gamers' wallets to attend large-scale events in locations such as Newcastle. UKESA was sadly scheduled to take place just a week after the ACON5 UK Qualifiers.

interesting how all these things are getting cancelled at cyber-cafes due to lack of interest. this, gamezone live (which holds it's qualifiers at LAN-cafes) and Acon5. maybe the felllas at iguk or in the organisations that are organising these things need to come up with some better marketing tactic.

Mostly it's due to location, and too many lans. For a lan to work that's not already established it has to be somewhere that people can get to easily, and offer something other lans don't. Either having more prize money available, or offer something a little different such as landed did with its intel extreme challenges [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

what you really need, is a lan centre to be opened by some millionaire, to get 30/40 alienware or great pc's, tfts, top class mouse mats for rent, all types of mice, keyboards etc. and for them to hold events every 2/3 months.

now that would be cool! XD [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

Yeah, I never went to that new one that opened up, did that after I moved away. Lan arena was pretty bad, but went down there for a couple of tournies with duck and a few other times with mates. Being in megabowl it was loud as f***, but easy to get to.

Don't really know many gamers from around there now tho, so duck would have to be head admin at DoZLAN! [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

Gamezone Live was not cancelled because of not enough people going to lan qualifiers. Gamezone Live was the show where all the publishers were going to show off their stuff, EOGC and Gamezone are two very different things. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

a 300% increase eh. my god your worse than the 2nd hand smoke lobbysits who claim a stastical increase of 20%. the way you come to such a figure is irrelevant to your argument if we asked you im sure. besides, weve got CPL using source .... oh wait.....the WT hasnt used it yet. WCG is widely regarded as being a bit of a tool for using CS:S , CAL-I who were going to abolish the 1.6 invite classification, are now re-establishing it admist the revelation of interest shown in the rival CEVO 1.6 tourney. Lets see what else, oh yes ESWC has emerged as the clearest focal point of the calendar so far for any teams with half a brain. guess what it uses 1.6. oh and for the record, multiplay using source is like any other large LAN meet adding another game. it hasn't replaced 1.6, its just running along side it. it's like saying that UT2004 replaced 1.6 at i-series too jackass. So all in all, the two major LANs using CS:S are CPL and WCG. Oh hey, they just also happen to be massive corporate events that probably took a large piece of cash from Valve to use CS:S instead of 1.6. CPL/WCG don't need to worry about the game that much, because as long as there's a cash prize, they know they can get at least someone interested. In the LANs where they're actually choosing the game on which is more popular, so as to get people to play, 1.6 is still king. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

17:43 4/4/2005
only reason eswc use 1.6 is cus there pcs are so s*** they couldnt run source even last year ppl said they had problems running 1.6 on there machines

and what game is dying and what game has monthly if not weekly updates? and which game is getting invested in more ?
and i bet u after cpl/eswc source will over take 1.6 in the amount of players playing it
