Double Or Nothing At The FragCafe

Posted by Hotshot at 09:24 28/9/2003.

Flapping through the mailboxes at UKT yesterday came news of this little ray of sunshine which soon beckons to brighten our days. The Frag Cafe in Sheffield, in association with the UK E-sports League, have put pen to paper and taken on the task of arranging a 32 team tournament spread out over 4 weeks, which will eventually lead to a £1000 cash prize for the overall winners.

Here's a little snippet on how the event will be co-ordinated over the coming weeks:

The tournament structure consists of four qualifying events, eight teams at each, these are on a fortnightly basis. The tournament itself will be of a double elimination structure with further rules and map list being announced next week along with a sign up form for the events.

The four qualifying events will be on the following dates:
• 18th October
• 1st November
• 15th November
• 29th November

Each event will have an admission charge of £15 per player and £5 per spectator/sixth player. The final event will be held on the 20th of December, with a prize of £1000 for the winners, £500 for second place and £250 for third place. With an additional £100 going to the winners of each qualifier.

The tournament is open to all, and coupled with the launch of the new AMD TAG team in conjunction with PC Gamer, it's yet another example of the UK dragging itself up to the standards of european competition and offering players the opportunity to reward both themselves, and their team-mates.

Sheffield is more central than Northampton, but 4 events every fortnight might be a bit much [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

You only go to one of the 4 events to qualify, then you go to the final, but if you fail to qualify in one of the qualifiers you can go to the next qualifiers to try again. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

Long as its a 11am or so start , as i know people coming a distance on trains don't want to be forced to stay 2nights in sheffield due to having to be there at 9am or so. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

It's not that, it was the having to wake up at 6 to get to the lan on time which meant nobody ever had a decent amount of sleep ;-) [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

can i ask if there will be seeds or anything the quals? as im sure if lets say 4 of the 'top' clans went to the same one, some of them arent gonna qualify. and go to the next day, taking up more spaces that im sure other clans would want to go to. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]
