I have finished writing my latest article for UKTerrorist, this one titled, UK LAN Gaming. It explores the murky waters of the UK LAN scene with regards to Gaming Centres, LAN Parties and LAN tournaments and most importantly it makes suggestions on what is needed to improve the scene.
With more internet centres than ever in the United Kingdom, things are looking up surely? Well the answer is no, not really. New centres are opening all the time but those that have been around a while are still being forced to shut their doors. Progress towards "inferno-online" is not being made. Within the last few months alone I can mention several centres that have been forced to close their doors. BattleLAN in south woodham ferrers, UniCon in Manchester, Beyond Gaming in Coventry etc. Major tournaments will not keep these centres alive, promotion to the gaming "elite" will not keep these centres alive. The bread and butter of their business depend upon a steady stream of local customer's through their doors.
