UK/IE Cup II Groupstage Draw

The UK/IE CS Cup, one of the biggest and highly anticipated online CS competitions in the United Kingdom and Ireland, finished its 3rd and last round of knockout qualifiers this week. Last night the Groupstage was announced and the groups drawn. UKTerrorist keeps you updated.

Later than planned, because of personal pc problems (my graphics card doesnt like my new cpu+motherboard as much as I do), here is the official draw of this season's groupstage of the UK/IE Cup:

At the end of the groupstage, the no.1 of each group advances to the 8th finals, where they will meet the winners of the 16th finals, which consists of no.2's playing no.3's.

This different layout was chosen for several reasons, firstly to balance out unfortunate draws, secondly to put more pressure on the group's top to become 1st (and thereby skip a playoff round and being placed against a no.2/no.3 seed in that).

Also this can make the groups more exciting for the 'lesser' teams, as commonly the battle for 2nd place is over in the last Cupweek for the no.4 and no.5, while now there still can be a no.3 spot for grabs, which is (allthough the hardest) still a way to advance.

The maplist was announced as:

Week 1 - de_dust2 / de_clan1_mill (starts Tue 6th of April)
Week 2 - de_cbble / de_nuke
Week 3 - de_inferno / de_cpl_fire
Week 4 - de_train / de_dust2
Week 5 - de_nuke / de_inferno

about the 'Xtra - Choke' swap. At the draw Xtra (seeded 10th) was accidently put into the 1st bowl (top 8 seeds) while Choke (seeded 8th) was put into the 2nd bowl (9-16 seeds). Fortunately this mistake was quickly traced and therefore corrected without any hassle. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]
