Steam Delayed

As you will have gathered if you tried to download it this evening, the release of the full non-beta Steam client has been delayed until tomorrow. Here's the quote from VALVe:

We've been making final changes to the Steam network throughout the night. Unfortunately, it's taken longer than we planned. However, the Steam dedicated server will be released this evening, and the Steam client release is now scheduled for tomorrow. We're working to get the release out as fast as we can -- sorry for the delay, and thanks for your patience.

No time has been given but today's release was due at 11 PST, which I've been reliably informed is 6PM UK time. Unsurprisingly the official Steam website is struggling to cope with the escalated traffic, and that's without any releases, so stick to the mirror sites if you try and get it tomorrow.

Some angry modem users have created a petition against steam protesting about the hefty download, although I'd say they're a bit late.

The most recent changelog for CS 1.6 is mirrored on our forums, but if you've been taking part in the beta you'll have seen these changes already.

	Alk^ 00:08 11/9/2003	Steam is delayed and has been delayed for about 11 months now because sierra are scared about the mass amount of cs players wanting to download cs 1.6. there best bet IMO is to release 1.6 not via steam but the normal fassion of sending the file to well known servers and suppliers of game files. Steam for sierra cost's more than its worth and they are now realising steam was a bad business decition but now it is to late to turn back. this is just my opinion mind you :P [ Comment: Report \| IP: Logged ]
