It has today been announced that two of the world's greatest and most experienced Counter-Strike players, Shaguar and Method, have joined highly ranked American side, Team3D. The two players have played in several teams together and as members of the world's former no.1 CS team, NoA, achieved both a CPL World Championships 1st place and the top spot at the World eSports Games.
The rammifications of this move are huge. Team3D will now be expecting to pull out of the rut that followed their gold medals are the World Cyber Games last year. Craig Levine of Team3D released a statement.
I am pleased to announce the addition of two fantastic, world class players to Team 3D – Mikey “method” So and Griffin “shaguar” Benger, both formerly of NOA. method and shaguar are among the worldwide Counter-Strike elite who have won a CPL and WEG title and most recently finished third and second respectively at CPL Summer as stand ins with their teams. With their addition we look to revitalize our Counter-Strike team and once again establish ourselves as the best in the world through hard work, practice, and perhaps most importantly having a good time. With the addition of Mikey and Griffen we say farewell to Charlie “cbz” Pyo. Charlie has played an important role in Team 3D and we wish him good luck in hisfuture Counter-Strike endeavors.
This leaves Team3D, themselves former CPL and WCG champs, with a roster of:
As for TeamNoA they released their own statement regarding the changes and their future.
Through the progression of changes within Team NoA, we will be changing from an Intercontinental team to a more regionalized team in order to streamline efficiency. In doing so, we announce the release of Griffin “shaGuar” Benger and Michael “method” So from Team NoA to Team 3D and wish them the best as they continue their journey through competitive e-Sports.Team NoA will be announcing our full lineup in time for the upcoming Season 3 of the World e-Sports Games (tentatively scheduled to begin qualifiers in about a months time) as we continue to finalize the management transition in our preparations.
How going from the world's greatest CS team to a team with two active members (Naikon and Xeqtr), one of which is currently on the fnatic roster will streamline efficiency is going to be interesting to observe.
With WCG opting to use CS: Source and no Winter CPL event it may be a while before we see a tournament attended by a vast array of major names (3D, coL, SK.swe, SK.dk, Begrip, fnatic, 4K, NiP, Mouz).
