Not exactly a firm date, but Doug Lombardi has finally spoken out on Valve's plans for the much anticipated Half-Life 2, stating that Valve "is currently targeting this summer for the completion of Half-Life 2". The article, over on CNN Money, talks about how the original theft of the HL2 source code meant delays, due to 'security fixes', were inevitable.
"The summer release date of Half-Life 2 is certain to once again divide gamers. Some will be relieved to finally have a date, however vague, that they can target. Others are likely to howl in outrage that the game has been delayed so far beyond its initial target date. (The game was originally scheduled to hit stores on Sept. 30, 2003.) Some ludicrous conspiracy theorists will likely begin regurgitating the ridiculous story that the source code leak was intentional, so Valve would have an 'excuse' to delay the game."
As expected, it was also confirmed that Valve will be displaying HL2 at this year's E3 in May.

lol the ppl who say valve leaked the source intentionally are so funny, why would the intentionally give away the code for their revolutionary engine that they spent 5 years creating for every1 to see? [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

That is ludicrous, but it's plainly obvious to me the game had no chance whatsoever of making it's release date last year, and they just used the source code theft as an excuse. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

and im not afraid to say i hated half life, found it too slow and boring. I guess a lot of people who played fps games before hl (which isnt many ppl here), would probably agree.
I liked quake1 a lot, but q2 was pretty crap i thought, especially multiplayer. I think q3 is the most complete of the 3 games, but a lot of people dont like it because they cant camp in corners waiting for someone to walk past like in cs. bring on painkiller!! [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

er... id software? they have always made changes to the benefit of the community, and reversed changes that have been detrimental. I think ironically quake is dying because it is too skill-based. There are only a fraction of people still playing quake3mods compared to before, and these people are very skilled, so anyone who wants to start playing now is gonna have a hard time.
how can you say valve are supporting cs after all the controversy over lan licences? The whole deal is a joke. Gaming centres are literally closing down around the country as a result of their money greed for a game which they didnt even make. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

Yeah ID have supported their products. but do you think EA would rather release a free patch for FIFA to update the player names or make you pay £30 for FIFA+1.
Finally on the LAN thing. Someone makes a film, you go to the cinema to see it, you pay the cinema, the cinema gives some money to the films makers. Fair? of course. Valve are seeing people make money off thier game yeah it sucks for UKT LANs but thats life. Other companies will follow soon. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

The system before was the right system, the game that valve made was half life - you needed to buy half life to play cs online (or buy cs) - valve gets money. Now they are just trying to double charge lan centres for a game they have already paid for. Its all thanks to some small print in the EULA that allows them to do this, im sure they thought they had struck gold when they realised they could do it. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

And Roadkill, that could be sorted by creating your own dream formation, which you had to adjust on specific players, that way that it still was playable, but all players became better every match ;D [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

could be considered an equivalent to how videos give you a film for one lump sum payment. But have you noticed on videos the license that say you're not allowed to show it in a public place? That's because that' where cinemas are supposed to come into it. Short term "use" of the film, for a smaller fee. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

Not only has it caused old lan centres closing down, or not using cs, but it stops smaller lans from introducing cs into their computers. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]
