Gamespy have posted a four-page article listing the top 10 reasons pro-gaming sucks. There are a couple of games-are-geeks stereotypes in there but there are also quite a few valid points. Here's a quick quote:
I don't liken professional gaming to playing Russian Roulette or filling your pants with gasoline while chain smoking Cuban cigars or anything like that. The idea is not completely without merit, but it is still significantly flawed.[...]
Pro gaming will probably never get significantly bigger or more popular than it is now. Maybe it's already peaked.
Have a read of the full article and flame away.

10. omg CS isnt like hockey/football i cant win by beating people up k thx /me points to darts.
9. odd how quite a lot of people watched CPL finals on HLTV then.
8. CS has been around for several years, and they wont change it apart from tweaking the engine with new versions like CS. CS will never die :-]
7. Online Leagues dont work?
f*** me.
/me looks at CAL, Eurocup, and even P2P leagues like BWCSL and Jolt.
6. Pro-Gamers have no personality? Really? How many has this 'tard interviewed or lived with for a few weeks to find this out. Just stereotyping geeks further.
5. No mainstream appeal. Sorry so lets shut down all the non-mainstream music genres and lock people up for trainspotting.
4. Rules arn't consistent? How many sports were split on rules during their formation. Rugby league and rugby union anyone?
Football and American football?
3. Too many leagues?
How many people follow sub-conference level football? how many people play in sunday club leagues.
Once again theres probably more football leagues than online leagues and more people playing CS at anyone time. To conclude football sucks and will die shortly. Its peaked. Or possibly he's talking BOLLOCKX.
2. Pro-Gamers are too serious. huh? /me thinks back to some of the insane stuff seen at lans.
They call people n00bs?
Has this person been reading UKT comments to make this conclusion? or has he just played 30 minutes on your average CS public server.
and most importantly apparently...
Its meant to be fun.
It is fun. Does anyone who spends hours practicing their proffession such as a golfer etc not find it fun? Each to their own? Live and let Live?
To conclude.

People who enjoy chess might say that taking three players out would be less enjoyable? As for the online leagues example. I think they work but as he points out - they will never be as "fair" as say a football league. Look at the controversy over certain clanbase nations matches etc. "Serious" Gaming will always be a niche market, more people take football seriously than any other sport or game because it is easy to learn, fun to play and can be played virtually anywhere. Games are released constantly and are constantly being bettered - they may retain some of their community, but overall less people play. "I think he's right about pro-gaming being in pointless in his "opinion". However he might think differently if he was a top CS or Quake player winning tournaments and generally having a laugh. However i think he's right about appeal - cs will never appeal to as many people as say football i don't think, for various reasons. With CS being the exception. Far less people see the point in taking gaming seriously purely because it requires a computer, often to be anti-social and it is virtual. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

30k watched the CPL finals??
Ofcourse we are talking world wide here, as the teams were from all over the world. 30k turn out to watch an average footy team.
get over it, its a niche activity, participated by a small community in general and thats y u'll never have the 'pro-gaming' that u so desperately want/need. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

everyone else has got over it, no one ever expected it to be the next "football" or anywhere near, its just llamas like this guy and u who are still caught up in the "l33ts" argument which died out 2 years ago when everyone else grew up that fail to see and try to spark up old flames that no one cares about anymore :x [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

It's typical of UK CS scene to reply to anybodies opinion by saying they are s*** and a noob thats why they say what they say. So the 1337 pricks are still out there. Read peoples comments before you post about the leetist attitude being gone. Alot of your post have been pro 'pro-gaming', so don't be a hypocite aswell as a tit.
