The Electronic Sports World Cup 2005 Swedish, Norweigan and Danish qualifiers took place this weekend. Competing at the much anticipated Swedish qualifier held at the Dreamhack LAN event were the majority of top names in the competition and a variety or highly skilled mix teams looking to qualify for the finals.
Following the group stages which witnessed the 1911 line-up of Vilden, SpawN, ahl, snajdan and fisker forced to withdraw due to their contracts remaining with NiP-Gaming, four teams remained. NiP were defeated by the EYEballers team of archie, Bullen, Zad, dsn and cezzeman 16 - 10 to advance to the finals upper bracket finals, whilst ICSU (kixer, speedi, zaki, zaffe and draken) conquered M&M (Magix, Megaton, Xeqtr, Digital and Solido) 16 - 12 to join them.
In the lower bracket NiP beat M&M 16 - 12 to advance to the lower bracket final against EYEballers, who were beaten 16 - 13 by ICSU. NiP avenged their previous defeat 16 - 7 and used their momentum to twice beat ICSU 16 - 12 and 19 - 16 to finish first in the qualifiers. Both NiP-Gaming and ICSU will be attending the grand finals held at the Louvre in Paris next month.
Over in Denmark last year's winners SK-Gaming (formerly known as The Titans) failed to qualify for this year's competition after being beaten three times (the final of the three 16 - 1) by fellow countrymen ClanIT.
The Norwegian qualifiers for the competition witnessed Team9 come from behind in the best-of-3-map final against Viruz to secure their trip to Paris.
