Article - Esports Governing Body?

Posted by St_George at 23:33 23/10/2002.

Providing us with yet another interesting insight into the world of esports, is none other than Paul of esport-pro. This time around, Paul is talking about the idea of having a governing body for all games, not just Counter-Strike. This would be similar to the role that FIFA play in the world of football. Here's a taster:
The CPL, WCG and many others CUP organisers etc work hard to set standards in competitions. They have nothing but respect from me, but they already have their hands full, so they need support to ensure that players and teams meet a certain and acceptable level of professionalism and that an organisation can look after the players and teams interests.
Certainly a very interesting concept, check out the full article here.

I dont see this working yet, how can you have governing body dictating the rules for every competition, when the WCG cant even get the same rules for their qualifier events as their final event? [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

And without a governing body to set a standard and make everyone feel they have to follow that or they get shown in a bad light, you'll never have the consistency that's required. The laws have to be set in place to carry the idea, not the idea carried out then the law set in place. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

iron, as ignorant as ever, the WCG gives the rules to each individual country's organiser (in our case the vga), the same rules matching the actual WCG, if anything goes wrong, it isnt the fault of the WCG, it's the fault of the organising party in that particuarl country. Nothing went wrong in ours. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]
