eSport-pro: Expanding Further

Posted by St_George at 23:08 23/11/2002.

Paul from eSport-pro sends word that they are now looking for more teams to become part of their evergrowing network. Here's what he had to say on the matter:
We will, over the next month, offer current and accepted teams the solution to how your web site should look (showing you example web sites we have already advised on), give each team a proffessional pre written sponsor approach letter and an accompanying power point presentation that is guarenteed to get a responce; all you will have to do is add a bit
of info and team logo and start sending.

eSport pro will still be on the sponsor trail, but many teams want to gain their own sponsors; so we will give the teams that want to do this, the best tools to do the job. Many hands make light work! Also, lets try get each eSport pro team, more self sufficient so the teams have to rely on sponsors less and less.

Any of the eSport pro crew will be able to email you the application doc or you can email teams@esport-pro.net and request a proposal doc yourself.

Together with that, the popular e-sports management agency are also looking to expand their staff base. If you think that you've got what it takes, contact Paul via his e-mail, paul@esport-pro.net.

Disturbed dealt with sponsorship without eSports pro and managed to get 2 mousepad sponsors, servers, webpage, bouncers and probably more I've forgotten.

They actually got their goods too. All this without an eSport pro model website, letters, powerpoint presentations. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

CS is not that lucrative a business yet, especially for the bronze/silver supported teams. So its bound to be hard to find any support for them.

They are expanding to get a large hold on the CS community while they have no competition. Although they definatly do need competition to make the business side of cs better in general. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

I take so much stick and get little help. Maybe you could say that that is my own fault; you made ur bed, lie in it, and all that. But I spent my time (you have no idea how much so far, work out ave 127 msg's per day, endless sponsor emails and letters) and my money trying to help, I ask nothing and my only interest is that the teams have more oppertunities, sooner or later. I dont charge them anything. I'm just trying to bring a little structure to the e-sport scene, nothing more.

We already did though, which is why we posted here not in alias? You could come to a LAN and I'll sit down with you and tell you what's wrong with your company as a whole if you like.

You said be constructive. Something constructive: learn to spell and try actually looking like a professional businessman rather than someone more immature than 50% of the CS community and you might get somewhere.

Not that I'll be doing this but how easy do you think it'd be for someone to screenshot this page/give it to a sponsor and show you being a kid when given some pretty LIGHT criticism? Is that good for 'eSports'?

You haven't done the job for the community you promised, it's not hard to swallow your pride and admit it. You tried to do something that was impossible when launched, but the general idea was there, just needed concentrating further. But you haven't done *everything* for teams' best interests. Paul, the reason everyone picks up on the spelling is because if this is what the presentation is like when press releases are posted to the CS community, is the standard reflected in the releases to potential sponsors?

I don't give a damn how you spell on IRC, or even in communications with sponsored teams. But if the same frequent spelling and grammar errors that crop up in these press releases were seen my potential sponsors, its not the best image to put out is it?

I've never once said anything against the basic principle of esport pro, but there are lots of little things that could so easily be improved on. Coming into #so19 and whining about how I'd tried to GIVE YOU A HEADS UP about something, for at LEAST the 4th time, does not impress me one bit.

As for the travel arrangements thing, well as it stands SO19 won't be able to go to CPL as over half our team can't get transport. Now if anyone out there can help us out, please do so :E [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

Errr did I miss something over the last few months ?

What have esport-pro achieved ?

Blagged some freebies off a sinking ship (Everglide) umm thanks I already have an Everglide ... and if I still played CS I'd get a func mat. Not many people go for Everglide mats these days ... preferring other mats that receive better reviews. Basically you've given away a lot of expensive coasters as I doubt many people will use them or that they actually benefit their gaming skills.

Look at the recent Red Dawn tournament ... the prizes given to the (amateur/non-sponsored only clans) winners was amazing compared to what esports or any UK LAN's have to offer.

I know I for one would rather be unsponsored and have a chance of winning a decent prize online than being sponsored and have to attend LAN's (usually costing yourselves money) knowing pretty much that you are not going to win anything (usually only top 3 will get a prize).
It's not just the inconvenience of getting everyone to a LAN it's the fact that every LAN you go to is supposed to offer a fair and level playing field for all clans, when in fact every LAN I have been too this has not been the case.

I think the problem is you've tried to spread yourself too thin (pardon the pun tubby). You should have just stuck to the top Clans/players like SK.swe, eol, HeatoN, pott1 etc. and f*** all the rest off. Learn to run before you can walk. Sort the wheat from the chaff (insert cliche here) etc.

Hav if you could get that tongue any further up his hoop you'd be tickling his liver ffs.

FELLA - in all fairness you don't seem to understand the point. Paul is doing very well helping a lot of the teams in the UK, so why not take a moment to respect the hard work he puts in.

Secondly, i do believe we the large majority of us play the game for fun yes? So why come up with the attitude of "dont go to a LAN because we won't win". WHo cares, its the playing and socialising aspect of LANs which would appear to appeal to most.

"hey nick if its so easy why dont you start a sponsorship company? Id love a new CPU or GFX card."

And eSport Pro have gotten GFX cards and CPUs for whom, precisely?

You said it's wrong to criticise them. What if you bought, let's say, a new bag of crisps that was advertised as p***y flavour, and you tasted them and it was in fact c**k flavour. Now, would you return the crisps so you could eat some p***y and complain, or stay with your s***ty bag of c**k and go "I respect you for making the crisps"?

It's admirable that the company was started, and the ethos that got skewed over time, but every single clan that was signed up was promised sponsored kit in some form or another, and how many have received anything?

And all this while they've been advertising and so on, so I could easily see why they're getting disgruntled for signing up to something they're not getting.

People don't deserve free stuff, I think the whole concept of advertising is bollocks anyway, how many sales do this kind of think acheive? Probably f*** all. I don't even like the concept of pro gaming, so you're probably right when you say these clans don't deserve anything - they don't.

But that, however, is not the point. The point is they signed up for a service that hasn't paid up. And that's why people are p***ed off. And his general attitude isn't that of a spokesperson for gaming as a whole, which is what he's trying to be. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

It makes me so sick when I come on here sometimes, and people are just flaming each other and trying to get one over on someone else, is there really any need for the constant b***hing?

I can't imagine what it would be like, if certain people who post (not just on this post) here got in a room together and were like this in real life, I think I'd probably want to be as far away as possible.

None of this makes the CS community out to be anything special, because the reality of it is, that everyone wants to be holier than thou when they are fighting their points, but the fact is, none of you are, myself included. We all have our down points, we all have a past with mistakes we have made, none of us a perfect, but would it kill people to try and get along and help each other out "nicely".
