EOGC organisers, Sujoy Roy and Dominic Mulroy have confirmed that the Chevrolet EOGC 2005 tournament to be held in September at Gamezone Live in London, using Counter-Strike 1.6 rather than CS: Source.
The Counter-Strike tournament will be held on Saturday 3rd September 2005 with the Excel Venue now remaining open until 8:00pm each night. Sixteen invited/qualified teams from across Europe will have the opportunity to represent their home nations in the finals of the event. Details of qualification will be announced over the coming months.
Competitors from around Europe are being invited to contribute in discussions with the organisers on what other games make up this year's schedule of tournaments. More details on this as soon as we have it.
On a related note, it has also been confirmed that ATI, last year's title sponsors, have again signed up to partner the tournament with Chevrolet. EOGC event organiser Sujoy Roy recently released the following press release regarding some of the prize distributions:
There are lots of computer gaming tournaments being run this year, some of them with vast sums of prize money on offer to the winners. But how many people really stand a chance in this hardcore world of pro-gaming? The unfortunate answer is not many, only a handful in the pro-gaming community have a look-in on prize money and any casual gamer may as well not turn up. In an industry as huge as computer gaming with millions of active players eager to join in, we need to create a competition that is inclusive of all players, whether they be a hardened gamer that practices ten hours a day or a casual player that just enjoys a quick bash on the joypad. Computer games are made to be participated in, not watched from the sidelines.
We have created a new tournament style to match the unique nature of computer gaming. The Frag Lotto is a marked departure from normal tournaments that reward only the very elite, and offer no excitement to the casual player. Rather than basing all prizes on a standard knockout bracket, players in a Frag Lotto tournament earn tickets. The number of tickets each player earns is based on how well they do in their games. While the very best players earn larger numbers of tickets for doing well in the competition, players who do not do so well also earn a smaller number of tickets based on their performance. These tickets are all placed into the grand draw at the end of the tournament, and prizes are awarded by tickets drawn from the virtual tombola. This means that while the best players earned a better chance in the draw, even the worst player in the whole tournament has a chance of winning the grand prize.
The Frag Lotto rewards players for taking part, and how well they perform throughout the competition. It does not focus solely on the winner, and it encourages larger participation since everyone who takes part gets a ticket for the grand prize draw.
At IGUK this has been the value of our nightly tournaments for the last year, with over £30,000 of prizes being awarded to those that take part. This is the concept we are wanting to introduce this year to the Chevrolet EOGC. With Chevrolet donating a high-end car as one of the major prizes, any player could be driving home rather than catching the train...

Poor decision to make an announcement of this nature THIS early.
With the CPL taking on Source.... 4k and 'TPCG'? will definitely be moving over. What will the rest of the UK do?
Valve have almost made a pro mode, being source. Seeing as the only teams that will be playing it, will be those attending CPL. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

The lotto concept is to bring the life back in to the tournament for the other 99% of competitors that dont win. You just have to take part and you could win loads of prizes, and yes, including a brand new Chevrolet Car! But that doesnt stop the eventual winner of each game walking away with great prizes too.

pro gamers don't practice many hours so they can tell their mates in the pub they're pro gamers and that they were on TV playing a computer game, sorry to break it to you. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

The fuel for that bad-boy would probably cost as much as a train ticket home, I wonder if they present it with a full tank of 'gas'.
For an extra classy touch they should've paid to have "Fragmobile" written on the side, oh yeah! [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]
