Tonight will see the release of the highly anticipated Counter-Strike: Source. At approximately 7pm GMT, CS:S will be released to the public. Personally Half-Life 2 has started to preload again on my Steam, so hopefully getting at it later will be less of a hassle. At the moment Steam is not even using half of its maximum bandwidth available, but I am sure this will change later on tonight. Remember this is not the release of Half-Life 2, just its multiplayer Counter-Strike: Source.
Tomorrow at 11 am PST, the Half-Life 2 Steam offers will be ready for purchase. Those who purchase via Steam, will receive the final version of Counter-Strike: Source immediately. Half-Life 2 and other games in the Steam offerings will be made available to purchasers upon their release. ATI/Half-Life 2 bundle owners may redeem their product key for the Bronze offer or apply their key toward the purchase of either the Silver or Gold offers, receiving a credit equal to the price of the Bronze offer. Also tomorrow, the Counter-Strike: Source beta will close. Valve would like to thank the thousands of gamers who participated in the beta and helped make it a success.
There are several packages that are available to purchase; Bronze, Silver and Gold offers. Details on these can be found below.
Half-Life 2 Steam Offers:
BRONZE -- $49.95 (£28.09)
*To be made available upon product's release.
SILVER -- $59.95 (£33.71) [ Details ]
GOLD -- $89.95 (£50.59) [ Details ]
Once you have paid for your chosen package, CS:Source will be made available to download. For more information and exactly what you get in the rest of the packages check out steampowered.com.

i remember steam tripping over its feet when a 130mb patch was released for just CS. How is it going to cope with the amount of people downloading HL2 and CS:S gcf's whilst all the rest are still playing CS / HL / other mods?
i think the networks going to fail when they start releasing the files to people, either that or its going to be limited to about 5kb/s download speed. Ill buy it when its out on DVD :> [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

But still, £30 for Hl2 and cs source. i thought the point of steam was to make it cheaper by cutting out the publisher? [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

i mean its a bit like sony finding a way to make ps3's for £100 less per machine but deciding to keep to their original RRP.
The fact that they're making you pay for counter-strike source, and half-life2 is now the free component, only highlights how much they've piggy-backed on the success of counter-strike and tried to bleed ppl for money for what was always said to be a free mod.
bet they never thought once about lowering the price either, valve u f***asses. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

If that is the case, screw you valve, goto hell! I am not paying just to play cs when I've already bought it. If cs:s is an upgrade from 1.6 it should be free, seeing as we've already bought it. Ridiculous. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

not exactly considering its based on an entirely new engine so its not really an upgrade from 1.6, it's barely even the same game and you're not paying for cs source you're paying for half-life 2 [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

I also dont agree with removing nuke and inf, however the idea behind it might be to encourage us to play the less popular maps [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

train n backalley were made by barking dog studios not easily corruptible volunteer mappers who sign away their rights for a few hundred quid :) So its possible they will never be updated, it probably depends in some part on valve's wonderful legal department. Besides, I'm sure someone will make maps just as good in years to come.
cpr: just the cs:s gcfs are 988MB, but all the shared source gcfs, (which I dunno if cs:s uses) come to 3.40GB :) [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]
