CSGN has opened singups for its Opencup. The cup (similar to GDOC 2002 in a way) will start with 64 teams, and through a number of group and knockout stages, 8 clans will remain to battle it out at LAN for the proposed £500 first prize. Here's all the info:CSGN OpenCupHead on over to your admin panel on the CSGN website to signup. The OpenCup entrance fee is £10. All money made from signups, after CSGN organisation expenses have been removed, will be put towards the prize fund.
The OpenCup will be contested by a maximum of 64 clans.
The first round will be organised as 8 groups of 8 clans, and matches will take place between all clans within each group.
The 4 top clans within each of the 8 groups (32 clans) will then move forward in the tournament to the knock-out stage. Draws will be held ahead of the group contests described above, to establish how the 32 clans will be matched in the knock-out stages, and the Cup Final stage.
The draw will be published on the CSGN website. From the first knock-out stage, 16 winning clans will move forward to the second knock-out stage. From the second knock-out stage, 8 winning clans will move forward to the Cup Final which will be hosted at a professional LAN Party on Saturday, 26 April, 2003 . At the Cup Final, the tournament will be organised on a knock-out basis with clans matched against each other based on the draw described above.Dates and times will be supplied to clans, of which they are expected to honour. We are on a reasonably tight schedule to fit in all the group games, so this is a serious issue.
We are expecting to raise over £600, after expenses. Not all the prizes are confirmed:
- 1st - £500 prize money, www.pinekone.com custome website.
- 2nd - £100 prize money, www.pinekone.com custome website.
- 3rd - 5 bncers, www.pinekone.com template website.

The Cup will help decide placements for the league we are starting soon after the cups completion date.
The league is free however - but only 60 places or so make up the 5 divisions. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

I'm therefore sorry that me and XioN can't offer you all more money. We've done this all from our own pockets, and i'm not ever looking to make money from it. A little support would be nice. :)

If you cant produce the finances for LAN comps stick to online! £500 for an online tourny is pretty good, but for LAN ur taking the p***. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

Or people could just see it as a lan they only have to pay to get to and have a damn good time competing against their peers; rather than be negative about the whole thing - which Obs and Xi spent a hell of a long time organising.
If the only thing people care about is the prize money then they are in the wrong 'sport'
I've just forked out a fortune to get to i15 and also for the weekend's activities - because it will be a good laff and I get to meet up with people i rarely get to see.
This is a Lan that you can play in for free - but have to pay to get to. Forgive me if I don't actually see the negative side to that. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

Secondly this is aimed at the guy complaining about the prize money. We are NON PROFIT everything we make from this will go to the winners, there will be some little extras from everglide, websites worth a lot maybee even a few other things. Were Doing this for free for the CS Community and your spitting it back in our face saying we aint giving you enough?
What was the last thing you gave to the community? [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

Its good that your trying to help put some good tournys together for the 'CS community' (laff) i just think £500 isnt worth all the travel. (my opinion) Why not have a few open cups and then with the money u gather have a LAN tourny. (suggestion)
Paying to go to i15 is a whole diff story coz its all weekend, there 100's of people there and its a big p*** up.
You should seriously look at getting a sponsor to throw some money/prizes in if ur gonna have it on LAN. (my opinion)
And if you dont like my opinion you can go f*** yourself, im entitled to it. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

5 people = £100 a piece travel.
Me getting from Harrogate to London = £19 (=£7) return on train (booking at least 2 weeks in advance)
I agree that getting sponsors in would be great - but have you considered that if this is a success then there is more of a likelihood that they will?
Opinion is great but MY opinion is that your second post was a million times more constructive than the first one.
as BDS would put it :)

You might not even make it to the finals :P
thirdly, if we could fund travel of the clans to the even we could. But we couldn't afford to do that.
Its also hard getting sponsors for an even which has never taked place before, its like a new clans asking Intel to support them, its just not going to happen, we need to achieve somthing first.
You should know the exact date of the final (if you read the CSGN site) so you have plenty of time to book travel in advance.
