CPL Winter Registrations

No sooner than the previous event being packed away are those busy beavers over at The CPL opening registration for the Winter World Championships. At present both an $100,000 Hitachi Counter-Strike tournament and a $50,000 Doom 3 1v1 Nvidia sponsored competition have been announced. It is likely Call of Duty will also be confirmed in the next few days.

The CPL launched today the online registration for The Cyberathlete® Winter Extreme Championships, to be held at the Hyatt Regency Dallas from December 15 through December 19, 2004.
The CPL opened registration for two tournaments: a $100,000 Counter-Strike team tournament sponsored by Hitachi Global Storage Technologies and a $50,000 Doom III one-versus-one tournament sponsored by NVIDIA.
Admission for competitors and/or BYOC is $80 and spectator passes are $20. Spots are available on a first-come first-served basis only and admission is non-transferable and non-refundable.

Whilst it's likely that both 4K (joint 13th) and TAG (joint 17th) will once again be in attendance it will be interesting to see if any other UK sides will have the finances or abilities to attend. It is likely that Jaffer Mir of GameFrontier (ESWC, CPL UK Quals), having recently been named as a partner in the CPL 2005 World Tour, will be hosting qualifiers for the Winter competition, stay tuned.

	emfive 15:20 7/8/2004	If they play doom3 in its current state it wont be too fun, they either need to speed it up 10x (best idea) or make the maps a lot lot smaller. A player could spend the whole map hiding in a dark little corner and get a single frag as his opponent walks by to win it from the looks of things atm. [ Comment: Report \| IP: Logged ]
	MaCcA^ 16:09 7/8/2004	the maps are tiny, and if your clever enough to use your flashlight then hiding in corners isnt a problem :S Speeding up the game is stupid, the game is fast, remember to put "always run" on... and if you still think its too slow... just dont bother and go play quake3 its not supposed to be the same style of game. 	emfive 16:23 7/8/2004	I was obviously exagerating a bit & I dont believe people will hide all match in a proper duel. I still however think its far too slow to be exciting spectator wise and if you want to play with flashlights etc I guess thats fine, not my cup of tea. I never said the maps wern't small, in some places they seem too cramped but I just don't find it fun going at the speed it is.
