CPL - International and National Qualifiers

Posted by Endo at 14:12 6/2/2004.

The CPLThe CPL announced today that a number of organizations have reserved country rights for the international qualifiers of The Cyberathlete® Extreme World Championships.

Countries currently reserved are:
North America - Canada
South America - Brazil and Argentina
Europe - United Kingdom, Sweden, Norway, Iceland, Greece and Yugoslavia (Serbia)
Asia - Japan, China and Korea
Middle East - United Arab Emirates
If you currently own an IT Center/ Internet Café that would be capable of hosting a Counter Strike qualifier, then you are directed to email the CPL with the following information:
1. Complete description of the event (include dates and venue picture).
2. List of secured and/or pending sponsors.
3. Description of tournament computers, monitors and LAN configuration. Tournament computers must use (3.0 Ghz or higher) Intel® Pentium® 4 processors and NVIDIA® GeForce FX video cards.
4. Examples of any promotional material to be used for the qualifier.
5. Background of organizers and examples of other managed events.

Organizations interested in hosting an official Counter-Strike qualifier for The Cyberathlete® Extreme World Championships should submit the information to qualifiers@thecpl.com

But the CPL will be hard-pressed to find an internet café in the UK that has computers which match those specifications, and have experience in organising large scale LAN competitions in the past. In all likelihood we are looking at another overseas CPL qualifier, which is a shame for the majority of UK teams.

thats just silly, surely they would realise that limiting it to intel/nvidia would greatly reduce the number of cafe's that could host them. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

hmm, im sure a big enough cafe in uk could ask for sponsorship from nvidia or something :) and intel, as it would promote their name as being the only cpl qual cafe in UK etc =) i hope it works :) [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't it say "Countries currently reserved" - and UK is under that list? Does that not mean some UK organisation has reserved the rights to a UK qualifier and as such the whole "offer to host it here" bit doesn't apply to UK LANs?

Until I read these comments, I interpreted that post as saying we actually had an organisation reserve the UK qualifier, hence there would be one? [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

Yeh, looks like I'm right.

"Those countries listed are not the only countries that will be hosting qualifiers unless no other organizations are accepted from different countries. They are the only countries where organizations have sent applications that have been accepted in which we grant them the rights to host the qualifier in those countries. "

We have some centre somewhere with those specs, and approved by CPL :¬) [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

cant be that secret, just search out the only lan cafe that isnt a cheap assed affair that uses AMD processors + runs Windows 98

seeing as _most_ lan cafes use AMD to build their PC's on the cheap, search out an expensive one! [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]
