CPL Netcode To Be Changed?

I noticed over at sogamed that the CPL are looking at changing the ex_interp value from 0.05 to 0.1.
"The CPL netcode committee (Nuccio, Hoedemakers, Thorstensson) is currently looking at changing interp to 0.1 from the current setting of 0.05. Once CPL Commissioner Frank Nuccio gathers more data about what’s in the upcoming version Counter-Strike 1.6 more information will be released. Look for a final decision this week!"
After bds's feature where he basically made people believe that 0.05 was the correct value to use, it comes as a surprise that their now looking at changing it. Perhaps Zibbo's explanation had something to do with it?

0.05 can cause some really jammy frags and isnt the most accurate way to play the game.

Zibbo's explanation in short:

No matter what interp value the client has, the server *always* assumes it is 0.1 . So lets take aztec as an example. I'm sitting at the ct end of the water with my colt(and an interp of 0.05), you come running out into view(with an interp of 0.1). In that situation I will see you 50ms earlier, but if I fire directly at your head, chances are that I will miss as your hitboxes are 50ms behind the model. That's why you see so many headshots which look like they are totally behind the other player(ie they should've totally missed)...

Dr_Evil^ wouldnt b so sure on that, i use interp 0.1 and have experimented with other values and i find 0.1 is better for sniping, especially for hitting moving targets. dunno if thats just me though :o Lets see how it works out. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

I find 0.1 more accurate, and can awp well with it on. I think locking the value will make for more accurate gameplay. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

Be nice if they locked everything (barring rate, cmdrate, updaterate and sensitivities), so that we can even the field a bit ... I know a lot of the top players would get a lot worse very quickly, but that's half the fun surely :) [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

That's exactly what its like necro, most people take time between getting the xhair over your enemies head and pressing fire, so naturally it falls slightly behind them, therefore an interp of 0.05 rewards them in a sense...aswell as letting them see you earlier... [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

Aye, a year ago, and I think he'd agree 1.0 was the 'better' value nowadays.

tbh I'm glad sense has won out over all the misinformed bleating about how 0.05 was more accurate for low ping connections because of the netcode and similar tripe. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]
