The creative folks over at Arena HQ have announced their intention to host a 3-day UK-LGC (UK LAN Gaming Championships) event at Butlins from the 6th January 2006.
The event, assisted by the good folk at Electronic Sports LTD, aims to seat 1000 gamers and will cost £140 per gamer. This cost though does include accomodation, entry to all the resort's attractions and entry to all the competitions.
Full gaming line up is yet to be decided but will definitely feature a professional 32 clan Counterstrike event with a very large cash prize as well as several Amateur Clan and Deathmatch competitions.
Although details are still a little, shall we say, hazy, we should be providing over 250 dedicated gaming machines for the main pro and amateur competitions in Centre Stage, a venue that is the size of 2 football pitches!! We will also be holding a BYOC (bring your own computer) section in the slightly smaller 'Reds' venue.
All resort facilities including bars, restaurants, nightclubs, Waterworld theme park, amusements etc will be at our full disposal as the resort will only be accepting competitors and spectators for the duration of the event.
Bookings and ticket allocation are being handled directly by the Butlins booking centre and will be available from 1st July. Will this be the greatest event the UK has ever seen? Or a diabolical tragedy?, UK-LGC seems destined for one fate or the other.

Double the price of an iseries but....
U get proper accomadation. None of this " stop sleeping in here and get ur ass outside" crap. Loads of otherstuff to do when sitting on ur arse for hours killing people has bored u a bit. I bet the prizes will be alot better then multiplays £200 between 5 crap.

Gamers and teams need to start embracing the fact that events will cost more, and particularly that if you take your gaming seriously and want to win tournaments, you should think about investing in accomodation. Sleeping on the floor is hardly appropriate preparation! :) [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

this kind of plan does more to hurt the UK lan scene than help it ...... its obviously not going to work its not a workable plan yet they will go ahead anyway t hen blame the gamers and lack of interest when they are forced to cancel it [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

I just think ppl are taking this the wrong way, its not a holiday UKLGC are offering. Its a huge LAN. And atm, looking at the UK CS scene we need all that we can get. The venue couldn't be better. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

Its not even open to interpretation because 4K match those categories. 1stly they are based in the UK (as a registered LTD company), it seems then if that is not matched then the team has to fulfil those formulations of players
4K's is 2-2-1 which is not all that different from 2-1-1-1 really. Anyway I am sure that 4K could draft in a UK player if the rules were bent to stop 4K from entering (since they meet it with cat 1).

The prizes available matter little as everyone knows only the top few teams will be getting any - you're basically asking 950+ chumps to sign up to allow a few people to win money. I don't see it being held at Butlins as being a major selling point, most gamers would rather it held in a big hall at half that price, even if it did mean no accommodation - as i-series attendence figures can vouch for. At half the price they'd have 70 quid extra to spend at their time during lan, which is plenty if they wanna go out on the p*** a couple of night's runnings.
Will be interesting to see if it works, I don't have much faith in it due to the cost and timing. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

Best of luck to them. Competition is good and the more LANs the better. However, I strongly suspect this will go the way of every other "huge lan from nowhere" attempt that we've seen all-too-often over the years, i.e. fall flat on it's face. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]
