Just been given the heads up by HappyBunny, that the BBC has written another great article on girl gamers. The article begins with in many minds, the most famous girl gamer Anja Maller, aka Vildkatten. It then discusses the domination of the scene by males and onto the difficulties faced by girl gamers in the CS scene.
But there are stereotypes. Counter-Strike is 99% male so females that do come into this world feel overpowered or that they are not welcomed. If people just opened their minds and didn't see us as being male or female, it would be much better.
The article is a great read and definitely worth taking 5 minutes out of your tight IRC schedule to check out. To read the full article head over here to the BBC's website.

That's stereotypical in itself, there's a hell of a lot more girlgamers than that, most choose not to make themselves known as a girlgamer.
Could have sworn I saw an article in a newspaper recently which said that 35% of gamers are women. Fair enough that's gamers in general on games like Dance Mat and stuff, but there's definitely a lot more female CS players than people think there are. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

I'm always dubious when people exaggerate the numbers of something like girl gamers when all the girls I know wouldnt go near a computer except to read the lastest worm email, send it to me and all my mates, open it, wonder why then their computer shuts down every 15 seconds and then call on me to come fix it >:|

on another note, i remember playing on a usp_map server a few weeks ago, and a girl-gamer (i assume) called [GFISKFKLSC]*Katie* joined and straight away said "hi, im a girl". She seemed a bit shocked and offended when i replied with "so?" and she prompty left. People like that are f***ing lame. She must have thought i was jedib***h. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]
