AOCAB Launches

Today sees the start of yet another movement against cheating in CS. The Australian Online Cheating Abolishment Body (AOCAB) has today unveiled it's new website and forums which will home their own anti-cheat system. As you may have guessed, this is an Australian project and not available for us...yet. If the project is successful, they intend to expand into other countries and eventually become an international resource.

Now, you may be wondering how they plan to succeed where many others have failed by preventing the use of cheats in CS. Rather than attempt to explain myself, I'll take the easy way out and quote from their website.

The new AOCAB website provides access to all of AOCAB’s services, as well as information on AOCAB, its members and its operation and policies. Users can now submit a demo of a suspected cheater for it to be reviewed by AOCAB’s professional staff through the ‘submit a cheat’ link on the left. A player can check to see whether their WONID is contained in the AOCAB database by entering their WONID in the submission field on the left hand side of the page and clicking ‘search’. If a player’s WONID is contained in AOCAB’s database, they can request to have the WONID ban reconsidered by clicking the ‘appeal an AOCAB ban’ link on the left. Before users make use of one of AOCAB’s services, they can read about the related policies and rules. These can be viewed through the ‘policies’ menu above, with the linked to pages containing information on how to successfully use the service and outlining what guidelines should be followed.

Similar ideas have been tried in the past with varied success, but a professional setup like this may be the solution to pinpointing and stopping cheats in the long term. Good luck guys!

Additionally, AOCAB’s website offers users the ability to find out more about AOCAB’s staff through the ‘staff’ menu, and how to contact AOCAB through the ‘contact’ menu.

I dont think you guys realise but AOCAB has been around in Australia for about 2 years now and has already banned thousands of WONids and IPs. They created and updated an AOCAB bot which automatically checks and bans players whose WONids are found on their database. All of the admins are extrememely experienced players and members of the community who can tell a cheat if they saw one (most have been playing since the early betas). If you actually read the whole frontpage news post you would also see that they have training courses for admins and demo reviewers and the option to dispute a ban (where more than one admin's opinion would be used). The system has worked very well for quite some time and with continued community support i cant see it failing any time soon.

also, that site kicks arse. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

Looks like Luten pretty much summed it up ;)

AOCAB has been around for almost two years in Australia, mainly providing a back-end role aiding administrators in their fight against cheating.
The release of the new website and forums provides the public with increased insight as to how we work and what we actually do, as well as gives them access to previously unavailable services.

Our staff are all extremely dedicated, putting in their time and effort for no reward other than the satisfaction of knowing that they are helping the community that allowed them to enjoy many years of gaming in Counter-Strike.

While there are many that believe that any staff member can simply add a player they don't like to the database (NukeD and DooMeh), our policies prevent any of that from happening. A player cannot be added to the database without the demo being scrutinised by at least 3 staff members, with all reaching the same conclusion, and then only a senior staff member has the required permissions to allow the entry to pass.
More information about the way we operate is provided in the "Policies" section of our website.

We'd be glad to answer any further questions, comments and even criticism.

"amazing, some more people to fail stopping cheats"

Just because they dont stop ALL cheats doesnt mean they havent stopped a LOT of cheats. There is only so much people can do, but just imagine what it would be like if people did nothing...

You may think because you see a cheater once in every 3 or 4 days (which is how often i see one and i play about 3 maps of public every day ontop of my constant scims / matches) that cheating is still rampant. Without the hardwork of people like AOCOB and Cheating-Death there would be one every 10 minutes on a server (which was what it was like for a while before PunkBuster and Cheating Death came out). If you arent willing to try and help yourself why are you so quick to criticize those who give up their time freely to try and help us (the gamers) enjoy the game more.
