In his tenure as CPL League Comissioner Frank Nuccio had a greater impact on the way we play Counter-Strike than anyone else. Changing the format from 6v6 to 5v5, Timelimit/Charges Only to Maxrounds 12 and even the maplist that was use in all major events today. Many will recall Frank leaving the CPL last year to focus on the exponentially expanding family pizza business, and then returning a few weeks later.
At some point between then and CPL Summer Frank silently slipped away again. Yesterday This statement appeared on the CPL website naming longserving staff member Justin Blanchard as the new most powerful man in gaming (League Comissioner).
The CPL announced today that it has selected Justin Blanchard as League Commissioner.Justin started his esports career in 1999 by volunteering for DoG (an online league that was acquired by CPL and re-launched as CAL). At CAL he was division administrator, head administrator, league manager and finally director of operations before passing those responsibilities on in 2003 to focus on the professional league.
At CPL he started as a volunteer in April 2000 and was promoted to tournament manager, qualifier manager, and then to tournament director.
His vast experience in all facets of CPL operations is an invaluable asset he brings to this new position. When his promotion was made official, he stated, "My goals as commissioner are to help promote our new sport worldwide through increasingly professional tournaments. I want the CPL to provide the best tournament experience with the most fun possible for both competitors and spectators."
His first major impact on the scene will be to determine the rules and format for future CPL Doom 3 competitions as well as making important future CS deliberations over possible roundlimit and map changes.
