The CS Crossfire have updated with a new article by [redheads]Tatjana, entitled, "That was then, this is now". Tatjana returns with a tale of relapse after 7 months of forced Counter-Strike sobriety:"Then again, the retail release is a mixed blessing. Counter-Strike used to be somewhat self-filtering. Only real hardcore fans would play much. As a result the community was more significant. Closer. We’ve lost some of that. Unfortunately, the first signs I saw of this when I started playing again were in the level of maturity - or lack thereof - on the servers. It has become pretty bad. I find myself chatting with fellow players less and less. I have to ignore more and more people. It's unfortunate, because to me one of the great aspects of CS was the socialization. Chatting in the down time after you die.
It's just as hard to be a girl gamer now, if not worse. I do still think that the word "rape" is far overused- I'm not sure many players really understand what power that word can have - but I understand that I'm probably being oversensitive about that, so I try to ignore it. All in all, except for being a bit more "mainstream" and therefore "dumbed down" the Counter-Strike community hasn't changed all that much since "The Austrian" wrote his satire interview last year. It's just as spot-on now as it was then."
It's an interesting read.
