This year Jolt.co.uk, home to one of the UK's finest CS:S Leagues, is running the UK section of the WorldCyberGames. They're searching for the best player or team across the 8 selected titles to send on an all-expenses-paid trip to Singapore in mid-November to compete against the cream of the World's players for the usual bumper cash prize.
Only one PC FPS title has been chosen this year: Counter-Strike: Source. This of course goes against the grain with most competitions sticking to 1.6 and the organisers have acknowledged this by permitting member countries to use 1.6 in the Qualifying tournaments, a decision that has puzzled a few players given that the Finals will definitely be using Source.
Nevertheless considering that this is an option, and that the UK still has a more competitive 1.6 scene when compared with it's newer relation, Jolt is running two online qualification tournaments - one for 1.6 and one for Source - with a LAN at Starbytes in early October (8th & 9th) also featuring a 1.6 and Source qualification tournament. This will give us our 4 UK Finalists who will compete across Source at a to-be-confirmed venue later in October.
