While in comparison to what has happened/happening in the few months revolving around these few weeks, this event may seem awfully minor, I thought I'd keep all those interested in the loop regardless.
Recently formed Swedish-side Fnatic.cs have come back from there average showing at the Spanish LAN GameGune last weekend, with winning the somewhat known, Campus Party 2005, hosted in Feria de Muestras, Valencia. This LAN catered host to inviting four known professional teams to participate in the tournament. The event, while mainly focused on the CS 1.6 competition, also had an interesting visitor in the shape of Neil Armstrong (former NASA astronaut - part of the duo that landed on Earth's Moon in Summer, 1969) along with giving the competitors the opportunity to actually 'camp' on the grounds (no irony intended).
Since MegatoN and Magix's departure from the then folded UK team of Team-PCGamer (formerly known as TAG), many have wondered whether the brother of Spawn and his partner in crime would ever rise to fame, having been a part of teams like Scandinavian side, Ownage, in the past. The dubious thoughts were given some heed while these two propelled Fnatic through the tournament, with only losing one game.
Final Rankings:
1st Fnatic
2nd a-Losers
3rd x6tence
4th aTTaX
5th Bad Beautiful Boys
6th footclan
7th CoolCore
8th hysteria
In the end, it's an interesting set of results. x6tence recently came 2nd at GameGune, and long before that placed very well at CPL.Spain, so such rankings gives rise to support for a-Losers, who have been somewhat subdued on the front of European LANs, still in the shadow of Mousesports. Though x6tence may have been the predicted winner of this tournament, the fact that their seed was usurped by fnatic and then brought down by a-Losers, only proves further still, how unpredictable, professional eSports can really be.
