Skolpojkarna2 win Rixhack

Last night, the Counter-Strike tournament at Rixhack came to a close with Ninjas in Pyjamas taking on Skolpojkarna2 in the grand final. Both teams looked dominant throughout the tournament, neither of them dropping more than a few rounds in most games. They first met in the upper bracket semi finals, where somewhat surprisingly the mix team played a very impressive game, beating NiP on dust2. After dropping into the lower bracket, NiP destroyed everyone in their path, losing no more than four rounds in a game to eventually meet up with Skolpojkarna2 again in the grand final.

Coming into the final, it would have been hard to pick a winner. Skolpojkarna2 obviously had the advantage of already beating NiP once and thus only needing to win one map to claim the title. However the map choice favoured NiP in that nuke is generally a map which requires more preparation and teamwork as opposed to dust2 which is easier to play as a mix team. The first game swung back and forth before NiP eventually pulled away in the second half to win and force a second round of nuke. After a short break, the teams returned and started again, with a very different outcome. Skolpojkarna2 began once again as Counter-Terrorists by winning the pistol round and building up momentum, eventually taking a commanding 14-1 lead with GoodFella in particular putting in an incredible performance. NiP fought back valiantly but it was simply a matter of time before the mix team broke through their defence to claim the title and first prize of 70,000 SEK (£5,200):
