ESL Amateur Series Announced

Towards the end of the ESL UK CS Cup many people asked us what the ESL would be doing next. Many of you have seen that we were going to make a "Seasonal League" as 25 teams signed up without any news posts going out advertising the fact. We've decided, that due to the already full house of CS Leagues in the UK scene at the moment (CSGN, UKCSL), to put a Seasonal League on hold and try to get the current UK scene up towards the standards of our EU Counterparts.

This afternoon I got permission to start an ESL Amateur Series (EAS). The EAS will be available for teams with at least 60% of the Members having Premium (Get Premium!), and is only one step below of the ESL Pro Series, (ESL league structure), which will bring some cash prizes, LAN and a more professional and organised league system. We're hoping to get the backing of many UK teams with the news of a UK EAS and in turn, we hope that with a well run and competitive gaming atmosphere within the Series that our German Owners will give the go-ahead for an ESL Pro Series on these UK shores in the near future.

As many of you are currently thinking "wtf is an ESL Amateur Series", below is a brief overview of the main features:

With the EAS being introduced, the 5on5 MR12 Ladder will be upgraded to an "advanced ladder" which means that each week the #1 ranked team from this ladder will recieve a 3 months Premium Account enabling them to join the EAS.

Obviously, before we make this step we need to make sure that be able to fill it with teams which is what this newspost is about. Only if there is enough activity in the current 5on5 Ladder will we have the teams available to introduce this EAS into the system.

Sounds nice and organised, if the prizes are worth the paying to play, im pretty sure it should have no problem filling up. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

Sounds like it could be an interesting idea, as long as the compulsory matches are made to be played so we don't have the non-stop wildcarding that has plagued some leagues [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

nice, shud be run well if its done by mike to. Have to be a lot of prizes, cos otherwise weaker teams will never get any, and as such may be discouraged from entering [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

It costs £22 for 7 players to go premium for 3 months. You only need 60% of your players signed up to premium, so thats what - £13 for three months access to the league(for 7 players)?

It's peanuts really. Definately worth it. Good idea, good luck with it. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

CSGN considered £15 per clan per season in CSGN (10 weeks - 2.5 months). But we never did it because i cant remember why. I like the whole 60% idea thats clever. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

If it means better prizes & more professional service, you should do it Obsidian. Also means clans are likely to take the league more seriously if they have payed to play. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

Didn't Barrysworld try a pay-to-play league, while they were pretty popular (they had ONE and dNC at points), and that failed rather badly? [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

BW did fail. I'm not entirely sure why though. It was great for a while.

Perhaps it is because people resent paying for things, especially younger people. Also, the fact people were paying for something which they could get free elsewhere; CSGN began running a similar style competition for free (less prizes obviously!).

More likely the fact BW was baught out by EB, who in turn were baught out by GAME (who has no interest in BW....). They should have learnt to keep the same lineup and stop nick changing!

Velta yes it would. But we think we will be able to offer both without charging eventually. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

u dont need premium to join the current 5on5 ladder though. Not made the EAS yet. We're looking at maybe even making it non-premium for 1st series and applying the premium from then on after that. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]
