Some good news for the gaming community arrives today, as the legacy that is Clanbase has recently announced a partnership with one of America's fastest growing leagues, the Global Gaming League. But what do all these shenanigans mean?
Ripped straight off the Clanbase frontpage:
* The GGL's marketing crew will find sponsorship for both ClanBase and GGL tournaments from now on. The GGL has awarded more than $100,000 in prize money in 2004 alone, and can now add the huge marketing potential of ClanBase (well over 2 million pageviews a day) to its tools.
* Development of our web sites will shift to a higher gear as we start adopting each other's best features. For example, ClanBase will implement better squad support and internal messenging, while the GGL will implement our conflict solving mechanism. I can also say GGL are working on an application that will greatly facilitate arranging and playing online matches.
If this all goes ahead as planned, we'll surely see the clanbase community revived to its past glory, with pro teams like 2s2p, SCEE and the ever formidable LANimals taking part in an attempt to win prize money, alongside the minor "professionals" that will no doubt re-join to sponge all of the prize money.

Spearhead 2v2 knives only ladders etc
No need for it. First thing i'd do if i was them is reduce number of ladders and / or just concentrate on running the cups
UK has a 2v2 source ladder a 3v3 and a 4v4 each with about 7 teams in

Hopefully this will see a return to the days when Eurocup / Opencup actually meant something, and maybe bring back the UK ladder to it's glory days.
Fox those are good points, though I don't agree - the thing about CB is it's democratic - if 10 clans/people get together request a ladder for a certain game/gametype, it's added. Sometimes this is abused, like in the Tibetan CS ladder, but it's a good way to encourage new games/mods to come through, as well as giving a place for less popular games to be competed in.
CB will always be a grassroots site, which is what made it so good back in the day, I don't think that should change just because of money coming in. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]
