Punkbuster's Tony Ray, interviewed

Posted by Fluke at 09:43 12/6/2001.

The creator of Punkbuster (that anti-cheat program we all know and love), Tony Ray has been interviewed over at CS-Nation:

Bender: How did you come up with PB?
Tony Ray: well, I was a league admin and on the council of another league and as a player I became more and more frustrated with cheating, I put a lot of time and effort into strategizing, etc. and when we faced a bunch of punk cheaters, I felt my time had been stolen. So for a long time I had been trying to brainstorm about how to combat cheating. Most of my early ideas had already been tried, then one day, it just hit me. Write a client/server app. Server controls things, client watches the player's system just like if I was looking over their shoulder as a league admin.
