Spyder (RSGamers) has interviewed N@rby, maker of many CS maps, over on their site:[rs]-Spyder - Q: Recently you ran a spectator testing mode for cliffe, can you tell us the results of this testing, and whether or not we will see an option like this in the game soon?
narby - A: I can't comment on that because I really don't know. The tests were simply making sure the cs spec mode could handle lots of users, kind of a load test. I'm pretty sure the spec mode will be in 1.2. Its the same system featured at the last cpl. Advanced spectator mode which allows a player when dead to follow other player in different views and from their prospective. It also shows a top down view of the map and the location of the players on the map.
