I was just browsing some sites and thought this deserved a little news space on the site. The 'Busted' website is well known in the CS community for their hard action against cheats (ie posting shots of server logs etc to expose cheats) in CS.....however, this time they may have gone just a step too far. Very recently on their site they posted up some links to a wallhack and an aimbot that are, apparently, totally undetectable by Punkbuster (the anti-cheat program). The site owner felt this would be the right way to go about forcing Valve or Punkbuster to take some real action against the cheats that seem to be rife in Counter-Strike:
"PunkBuster and Valve: The ball is in your court.
CS Leagues: Suspend league play until Valve and or PunkBuster resolve this issue. We are sick of quick fixes."
That was his message to the community. As a result of this announcement there have been around 5 CS leagues, so far, that have closed down for the time being.
No matter how good the intention behind this stunt was, I feel this was a very very stupid thing to do. If these cheats have spread as much as he wanted, then CS could die, very quickly indeed. Unless of course, Valve take some action but is that really very likely?
I suppose we'll see, watch this space...
