Deviant over on Nightstrike has written up a new article that focuses solely on DaveJ's de_dust. The article looks into why the map is just so darn popular, be it layout, scenario or what?"As far as scenario is concerned, I think De_Dust is quite typical of CS maps in general. Not that this is a bad thing of course. The scenarios are fine, very simple and very playable. But not, I must stress, unique. Many maps share similar scenarios. After all, there are only three different base types - CS, DE, and AS. By scenario I mean slightly more than just this though. I mean the fact that it is in an Iraqi/Arabic place, the fact that there is a chemical weapons drop that the CTs must drop in and defend, a bit of a Gulf War scenario if you like. Does the more realistic scenario appeal to our darker sides? Do we feel closer to fulfilling the role of Counter or Terrorist."
I found 'The de_dust Phenomenon' a great read, and I recommend you give it a look, it's different from your average article idea. Good work.
