"One common reply is that it will ruin the game, by eliminating customization. This falls on its face given the fact that it will not be an option. As most servers, to combat the cheating, will have custom skins off, CS will devolve into three types of servers; open servers with skins allowed and full of aimbot users, open or closed servers with skins not allowed permitting aimbot free play, and closed servers carefully administered allowing custom skins. As to address the driver hack, where the OpenGL code is manipulated slightly to permit aimbots without skins, PunkBuster can be set to head that one off. PB has been proposed by users as a ship with add-on in a future version."
Seems like he has put a lot of effort into the piece, and I recommend you give it a look.
"Euro*Brew: The recent announcement of locking the models in CS 1.2 will hit hard for the custom model/skin community, especially for you since you work on CS.net's official Skin site. What do you think about Goose's, Cliffe's, and Valve's decision to lock the models?@ct10n: Well custom models and skins are what make CS unique, taking this away (in some servers) I think will have a huge impact on what fans think about Counter - Strike.
Incase you don't know, Action's many talents include news poster for CS@PHL, Skin reviewer for SkinShack, and an official CS.net forum moderator....
