Gamespy wrote an article about Half-Life Counter-Strike 1.0 retail version. It features some nice information about the package and a bit about other Half-Life MOD's, snippet:MOST PEOPLE READING THIS REVIEW probably belong to one of two groups - (a) you don't often play Counter-Strike (you may not even own Half-Life -- gasp!) - and are simply wondering what the fuss is about; (b) you're already a Counter-Strike junkie and want to know what the heck you get for $30. If you're in category B, let's dispense with the formalities and skip down to what you need to know - what's new and what's included.Part of the success of the game comes from the popular "realistic weapons / damage" formula so prevalent in the gaming community these days - military-style weaponry abounds, players rarely survive more than a few wounds and shooting accuracy is affected greatly by whether you're moving or not. Part of the fun is choosing which weapons to buy at the beginning each round, and it's these weapons (which are done extremely well) that are really the biggest star of the game.
