CXG Chris 'Recon' Hill Says Sorry

Posted by Zorro- at 09:04 23/3/2004.

Yesterday, Chris "Recon" Hill, the big man behind the CyberXGames, which we all know resulted in failing LAN Finals, made a statement on Gamers.nu in which he says sorry to the CS community and gives you some insight on how this all affected him and his family.
In an update he made a statement about the prizemoney and the promised re-imbursements of the travel money.

Here's a snippet:

Now most of you hate me and I relize why. Things went wrong and certain companies didn't do what they promised for us(CXG). This caused total break down of CXG. I also take into heart the amount of money and time people wasted perparing for CXG and coming to Las Vegas. It was hard on the community and hard on the players to recover from such a dissapointing lan. I personally feel that things were set up correctly and professionaly. It took one minor thing to knock it all off track. Well this is why I am writing. I want to apologize for any part of CXG that went wrong on my part. I have been running it through my head for a little over 6 months now and I feel horrible that things didn't go as promised.

i dont have no respect for this guy what so ever..to come out and grovel in this way is pathetic and weak. He gives young entrepreneur's like myself a bad name..he tried to organise the biggest gaming event in history and failed...miserably..whether the probs were out of his hands or not...the blame still comes down to him..if u r willing to put on a big event like this then you also must be ready for the consequences..if ppl have payed s*** loads out to get these places etc..then he shud foot the bill out of his own pocket the tard.

Me and my company are doin all the live feeds and big screens for the DownLoad Festival this year..if i go then cant make the live feeds work what do i do? do i go 'Im sorry Metallica, LinkinPark sorry Korn, sorry iggy pop! Please forgive me i am incompetent and weak..i just wanna watch the show and forget about it please? Im sure all of them and the organisers of the festival would just say fair enough Guys u gave it ya best shot go watch the show..Like Dogs*** they would! I would have to take it upon myself to MAKE the live feeds work..or face a massive lawsuit and massive compensation bills..sort yourself recon..take it on the chin..and get a mortgage to pay off all the Gamers who payed for hotelsflightslapdancersgambling while they were in vegas ;----------0 [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

aye man, JohnnyR speaks the truth. Part of the downside to being an 'entrapaneur' is while you could stand to make yourself a tidy sum, you also have to weigh against that that you hold the responsibility to produce that product/service.

'nice' of him to apologise... but is it me or can you just not believe a word any the CXG folk say?

or is that just americans generally ;) [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

Well to say he has to accept the consequences I am sure he has, he is just making an informal apology, stating that he has not made out of the deal, and he is sorry. Obvioulsy people jave been accusing him of basically taking the money making a quick buck and F***ing off with the cash, he is just saying sorry andd this is not the case? Well just from reading that small snippet up there it is plain for all to see that he has accepted no responsibility for the failure of the event. In fact, is that statement not just a rehash of what was released just after the event? Is there anything new said or is it just a plea for sympathy because the CXG are planning something else and are starting propoganda? [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

Obviously people have been accusing him of basically taking the money making a quick buck and F***ing off with the cash, he is just saying sorry and this is not the case?

Though he should really not ask for forgiveness, if he wants to play along side people @ LAN etc just use a different in game name? or Go and take the possible beatings! I mean do you know what he looks like? I dont?

pathetic statement, if u read it carefully, as fez says, its just a text in which he tries to dispell any blame by mentioning it being "someone elses" fault just after he insinuates that there could of possibly been some blame to lie with himself.

If he is the big man at the top and things go wrong then he should be the one to take the blame, cos if things had gone swimmingly brilliant, lemme guess who would of been expecting all the attention and glory. cant have it both ways. Fix the problems your responsible for, then look for an apology pal [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

Get a load of this s***, Recon you dident do s*** @ cxg you sat around on chairs looking retarded all the time, except when you were at mcdonalds eating. I wonder who you thaught whould do all the work for you, volunteers? Yeah right how about halling some ass instead, all you and your family are good at is talking bulls***. Lies lies, I actually regret not calling the cops on your scam when at vegas. Your family should never be allowed to do business again you should work the rest of your life paying this s*** of

#75NIRee 2004-03-23 12:36:14
#67 #69 Your not quite following, we got screwed, there will not be any dealing privatly with these people, everyone that whent to CXG got f***ed. And there is nothing we can do about it, nobody is going to get their money back, we that was on site and saw how these people act, how they lie, we already know.
Flaming on forums is the only thing we can do about it. It wont make any diffrence whatsoever except make us feel better, and in this instance, make Recon feel worse, and to be honest I couldent care less about him and his feelings. I know how apparent it was that that event was going to fail, everyone does. And yes we all screw up, not on this magnitude however, and we all have to face the results of our failure. We (xP.se) won a CXG qualifier in greece witch means they gave us hard cash to pay our travel and accomodation costs to cyberxgaming in Las Vegas NV. We dident have to attend, we could just take the money and do whatever we wanted with it. So this means we spent our own money on a trip from europe to a desert to sit all day watch the Hill family f*** us over, and to se Recon laughing when the CS tournament got cancled. We should of let the Hill familiy leave Las Vegas in tar and feathers that whould of made the most of us feel better, in that I am certain.

The reason every1 is giving stick is not to do with the failure of the event, that isnt the main concern for all the people i know, it's the recovery of the money that was wasted on people going to vegas!

If we got our travel expenses back, it would all be ok nevermind. Like the WCG Paris event that didnt take place, all the teams were given compensation instantly. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]
