Asus really aren't making any friends in the gaming community with the release of their cheat drivers for Geforce based cards. These were previously released in July last year, but were removed due to pressure. Now, however they are back, with a far more recent release, to support the Geforce 3 and other technologies. To quote The Register:At the time, ASUS boasted: "There are three special weapons for ASUS VGA cards' users -- Transparent View, Wireframe View, and Extra Light. If you do not have an ASUS VGA card -- be careful! Never compete in the 3D games with anyone who has an ASUS VGA card. Because the only result is to loose (sic)."
Cheating has been on the up recently with the release on a German site of hacked OpenGL drivers, which allow you to see through walls.
Asus obviously don't understand the online gaming community, and this appears to be a marketing ploy that has backfired. Punkbuster will be updated to detect these cheats, but it still is a major blow for those who just want a quick game on public servers. We are trying to install Punkbuster on our UKT servers, and hopefully will have it soon.
