CPL Summer 2004 Announcements

With The CPL Winter World Championships now under a month away we find ourselves once again flooded with various news items and interviews relating to the organisation or it's competitions.

Yesterday CPL announced details concerning the Summer 2004 competition, which many UK lineups will be hoping to attend.

The CPL announced today a few changes to the tournaments taking place at the Summer 2004 Extreme Championship Event.

1. The cash purse for the HaloPC tournament has been changed to $50,000
   
2. A new tournament has been added: Unreal Tournament 2004 with a $50,000 cash purse
   
3. The cash purse for the Counter-Strike tournament remains at $100,000

NVIDIA, the sponsor of the Halo PC and UT2004 tournaments, has agreed to sponsor both tournaments again at the CPL Winter 2004 Championship.

The CPL has forums for all three tournament games at forums.thecpl.com. If you have opinions on formats and rules for the UT2004 tournament please post them at the official forums. Registration for UT2004 will open in early January. UT2004 is expected to be released in early March.

The CPL is in discussions with several developers and sponsors about adding a fourth tournament to the Summer 2004 Extreme Championship. The Summer 2004 Extreme Championship will take place July 28th to August 1st, 2004 at the Gaylord Texan Resort & Convention Center in Grapevine, Texas.

Will the CPL using 3, possibly 4, games at each event be a good thing for Counter-Strike or finally be a move to replace Counter-Strike as the headlining event? We'll see.
