Happy Birthday Counter-Strike

Yes ladies and gents it is Counter-Strike's 4th birthday today. Many other games have graced our hard disk drives but have fallen to the might that is Counter-Strike, so today I raise my ribena in a toast for CS - Happy Birthday. Here is what PHL say about the game:

"First released to the public on June 18th, 1999, Counter-Strike started out as just another fan-produced mod for Half-Life. But thanks to a series of steadily improving beta releases, the mod started to grow a very strong and dedicated following. As the team-oriented, tactical gameplay was refined and improved and new concepts and maps were introduced, Counter-Strike became less and less of a mere Half-Life mod and transformed into a whole new game. Today, Counter-Strike by far the most popular online action game, with tens of thousands of users playing at any given time. While sold separately in retail stores, Counter-Strike is still available as a free download for existing owners of Half-Life. With realistic locations, weapons, and physics, Counter-Strike is about as close as you’ll ever get to saving the world. Or destroying it."

20:25 18/6/2003		 happppy bday, thats 4 bumps for u Cliffe and Gooseman. As with every1 else thanks for f***ing up my education (GCSES) nice one! Bring back 5.2 , 7.1/2. started 5.2 at mates, 7 at home, wireplay days were fun, old maps were fun. wpndepot was fun- cant remember if that was out then or if i played it on wp classic server... and believe it or not its a good game compared to other mods, hence why we play it, or it was :P [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

In various places the release date of BETA 1 is listed as the 19th of June. It was actually released a full hour before midnight (eastern), but cliffe couldn't afford an accurate watch or something. BETA 1 came out at 8 PM Pacific on June 18th, 1999.
