CPL Update

With all the Intel Masters news we've been a bit slack on the CPL as of late. This should bring you all up to date: Firstly it seems top US team 3D might not be able to attend the CPL World Championships as a result of their sponsors pulling out:
Unfortunately with just five days until CPL, Team 3D's sponsor hopes temporarily fell through and now are in the same situation as so many other teams. We are left with the bills of tickets and hotel rooms already purchased and no time to find new sponsors for this event.
You can read the full statement here. Secondly, the schedule for the event has been updated and the brackets have now also been uploaded. They do not make much sense to me but if anyone can translate them then let me know. Also yesterday The CPL announced the following:
MFA Video Productions announced today that they will provide daily video coverage of the Cyberathlete Professional League Pentium 4 Winter 2002 Event; a massive gaming event that will pit the world's greatest professional computer gamers against each other for $140,000 in cash prizes. Gaming enthusiasts around the globe who are not able to attend can now share in the excitement of the event. Daily broadcasts will include match highlights, interviews, event activities, workshops and more.

The coverage of the event will be served through the CPL's official ISP, NetFire.com. Be sure to check out cpl.netfire.com for daily video coverage of the event!

Hopefully this will hold you over until the event actually begins.

Update: The Team 3D website has been updated to say that they should now be able to attend. They managed to secure travel expenses from mouse pad manufacturer, Steelpad. They also secured some finances via big-hearted fans, who contributed through the PayPal system.

brackets are fairly traditionaly. You've got 64 clans pitted, then they have a seperate link to losers and winners bracket's (upper & lower) and then the finals & semi-finals in the third link. I think they split it into 3 different pages to make it easier to read [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

quite pathetic so many yank clans are having trouble getting to the event when many clans from all over the world inc europe mange just fine to get there and proabaly at a greater cost, maybe those p***y yanks aught to go get jobs and not expect the public to pay for them like zEx did,

get jobs im sure many clans from outside america arent being totally finianced by sponsors [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

Their sponsors pulled out / couldnt afford to get them to the tourney. Its hardly the clans fault is it. Its down to the organisers to arrange all the finance and it seems like the yanks aint doing a very good job. If anything the clans who are having to ask for money are victims of the whole situation. I hope they manage to show up cos it wont be as good a tourney without 3D underacheiving and reforming just after CPL. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

hmm, with the 3D tihng, as i dont pay much attention to the US scene, was it a long term sponsor just pulled out, or a new sponsor didnt get it together at the end?
Surely if they (3D) were smart, they would say that they have to have a 3 month warning or any sponsorship pull outs. probably me being naive but it would be a good idea, then they would be stuck with a few hundred dollars of plane flights that they cant pay.... [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

lol why are american clans pathetic?
good reasoning meighty.

oh, and in regards to 3D, i don't think it's their fault at all. If they had hoped for a sponsor to cover all costs for several months, then the sponsor pulls out at the last minute, 3D won't have saved up any money for the event. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

update: http://www.team3d.net/

I am pleased to announce that Steelpad, the leading manufacturer of steel mouse pads and accessories, will now be assisting Team 3D in funding our trip to Dallas. Steelpad has agreed to help offset the cost of travel to the CPL event. I think this is really a commendable move by Steelpad, a small company from Denmark. It says a lot about their interest in the gaming community and commitment to gaming around the world.
