CPL® Pentium® 4 Processor Winter 2002 Event - Update

Posted by Dev at 19:46 10/12/2002.

Right, over the last few days a fair few of the details have been finalised for the CPL® Pentium® 4 Processor Winter 2002 Event.

The map rotation for the CS tournament is near to completion. de_inferno and de_train will be used in the two-round qualifying bracket with de_dust2 being the first map used in the double elimination bracket. The schedule for the event has also been updated, you can view it here.

A couple of pieces of sad news now. With a lot of clans finding travel costs to big events such as the CPL Winter 2002 event too large, many have turned to the public for help after their sponsors have failed. One example of this was seen with the WCG Korea 2002 championships earlier this year where a clan that was supposed to be there could not find the funds so was unable to do so. Sadly this looks to be happening again. Team Rival a CS clan from the United States have released this information:

We just got back from the CPL Qualifier in Tempe, AZ; and unfortunately we have placed 2nd, and with CPL just around the corner, we are asking the community and anyone who wishes to support us to help us by making a donation via Paypal.
Find more information on the Team Rival website. As well as Team Rival, European clan Mouz have confirmed that they will not be attending the event. Although the full details as to 'why' have not been released yet it is rumoured cost is once again a problem.

Finally CPL Europe received a 2 year contract extension from the CPL. Here is a snippet from the official press release:

After an exciting year 2002 with altogether three CPL Europe events Turtle Entertainment now extends the CPL Europe license for another two years. An according contract has been signed between Turtle Entertainment and the CPL World organization.

The extension of the CPL Europe license will be the basis for even more professional gaming in Europe. Already the CPL Europe has announced its tentative schedule for the upcoming events: France, Scandinavia and Germany. The first confirmations for these events are expected within the next few weeks.

Lets hope we can finally have a CPL Paris and maybe a CPL London, who knows?

Anyway folks, that’s your lot for now. Find full details and updates on all CPL goings on at there official website.

If appealing to people you don't know to send you money so you can go play in some cs tournament isn't 'sponging' I dunno what is... [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

Indeed Mag

So internal flights in the US cost several thousand dollars each Nick?

No-one said magically, it's called working part time and saving money, people in the real world do it all the time. Maybe I shouldn't be expecting that much of "Pro Gamers" though :o [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]
