An Interview With The First Female Pro-Gamer

Continuing with their Female Domination theme, Challenge CS took time out to interview Vildkatten. Many will remember Vildkatten from CPL Berlin. Those of you who don't know her, here's your chance to take a peak into the life of the first female pro-gamer.
Do you think there is any discrimination towards female gamers ?

Vildkatten: Ofcourse :) "We cant play the game" "We should stay in the kitchen" yadiyadi :P But its getting better though, there is fortunately alot of people who think its damn cool that girls play, and it looks like more and more girls plays nowadays, so it will become a more common sight to see girls on servers. But no matter what u do, there will always be some kind of discrimination in the second u have both sexes together, even if we become more accepted :)

What do you think the gaming community in general should do to make gaming more appealing to females?

Vildkatten: Well I think perhaps many girls dont "dare" to enter this atm. male-area, so make it known that this is a place free for all, no matter age, size or sex. Its just The Game ;)

14:24 17/11/2002		 Sports where women and men are segregated are only those involving physical contact. In almost all others men and women can play equally, sometimes at a minor disadvantage, but not wholly.

However, as far as gaming goes, there's nothing which makes a woman less equal than a man at a game - as long as they're not blind or spastics.

They should compete at the same standard as men.

Also, I'd like to state my p***ed-offness about Nicole giving female gamers a bad reputation. She got somewhere by stripping naked and by flirting. And we're supposed to *not* be stereotypical geeks with the 'It's a girl! Gimme a blowjob!' routine. This sort of s*** just makes it harder for them to integrate into the community. 14:46 17/11/2002		 nick^ im all for equality and all that but look at the facts - the overwhelming majority of top chess players, mathematicians, academics, bridge players, and in fact pretty much any thinking game/activity are men. Take maths for example: at GCSE girls tend to do better than boys, but when it gets to Alevel and above where intuition, and not just hard work, is required its a hands down win for men. Something to do with the way the brains work perhaps, I wouldnt like to guess, but those are the facts. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

Actually I'd question differences between men and women on that front, do men have faster reaction times. Also are men more able to perform as a unit, I mean I know the army is mixed but when it comes down to the battles throughout history it has always been men who formed the two sides, theres gotta be more than just women have babies as a reason.

Im not denying women can play games to an exceptional level I'm just arguing whether the differences between men and women justify seperate leagues.

You do realise that people take notice of CS not because of some random tart flashing her tits but because people can appreciate the game takes skill, and at a level attained by the very top clans makes enjoyable watching?

Has nobody ever heard the old adage about the fact that true 'girl power' didn't need 5 tarts to express it in s***ty pop music, prance around flashing their c***s, going "GIRL POWER, GIRL POWER!"

Seriously, it defeats the whole object of trying to get girl gaming taken seriously when it just makes all these people conform to geekish stereotypes "ooh, there's Nicole's new pictures, I'm going to have to have a w**k".

CS needs women gamers to alleviate the inbalance in gender. What it doesn't need is stereotyping. Which is exactly why Nicole is a s*** thing for CS as a whole (her supposedly being at the forefront of female gaming). [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]
