P2P Underway At Barrysworld

Earlier tonight the much anticipated Pay 2 Play service from Barrysworld began. Subscribers will have access to services such as public servers (non-subscribers will still have access to the public servers until next week apparantly), bookable servers, web hosting, BW email and FTP access.

While this obviously won't be welcomed by most, the prices are very reasonable indeed, £24 for a years subscription or £12 if you currently own a Game Reward Card. Read more here.

	Cyph3r 20:57 15/8/2002	Reply to Chris0: I doubt blueyonder will fully become pay 2 play, but you already have to pay to join tournaments/leagues (well you need credits - I use the 200 I got for free at christmas). 	Rogue1 21:13 15/8/2002	First of all, please note that there are not currently any charges for BW leagues. You'll need to pay for publics and bookables, but the leagues are staying free. If you already have a BW e-mail account, you will continue to be able to use it. However, no new e-mail accounts will be available for people who don't already have one, unless they subscribe. 	Paul 10:06 16/8/2002	This is a bold move by BW, but as they have apparently failed once they realise that no business can be built without income or a solid business model, unless the choose to invest in becoming "the server company" and plan to run at a loss. Some people will pay, some won't. It is no diffrent to the TV model, mobile phones etc. I think you will see more companies move to this model over the comming year and then a price war will start and pay as you go servers will be low cost anyway. lets wait and see :) [ Comment: Report \| IP: Logged ]

	blah 18:30 16/8/2002	Cant believe some people still manage to whinge about paying £12 for a years worth of BW service? (come on, who dont have a reward card these days?, and even if you dont it costs 2 quid to get one, which = 14 for a year) 12/year for the mysql webspace hosting service alone is an amazing deal, not forgetting all the games you can play on bw, plus the potential discounts for barryservers (possibility). If you think somewhere like BW can survive without charging forever you would have to be dreaming, BW costs a huge amount to run (into the millions), id like to see someone fork out that amount yearly and get next to no return on it... As for BY going p2p, they are slowly adding it accross the board, more and more of their features are becoming p2p, they cant afford to be spending thousands on gameservers and get no reward, no one can [ Comment: Report \| IP: Logged ]
