Prayer (cs.jolt.co.uk) has written up part one in his 'future of online gaming' series and this first installment tackles the issue of clans turning professional:"Clans are great, as groups of friends who meet up and play online. But there are no contracts, managers, and no rules. It really is a dog-eat-dog world in the world of CS clans. To have any kind of future we have to look at doing two major things: Contracts and managers. Clans have to become more than just unofficial groups of people who play a particular game together. Effectively they have to become a business."

are you 100% certain???
i seem to remember a few rumours going around shortly after ps2002.
and surely LANs dont take random urine samples do they? did the CPL screen SK after they won CPL to see if they were clean? [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

On the suject of sponsors I cannot imagine how any company gets any worthwhile exposure from gaming clans unless they are tied in with a net cafe and can advertise there too for example. Anyone shed any light on that? [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

Any company can get their name known out there. It just depends on whether they expect that specific bit of advertising to bring in X amount of money, or if they want that to count to the advertising they run as a whole.
If you have your name everywhere, even at lans, people are more likely to take notice. If you just have your name at lans and on a couple of websites, you're less likely to be noticed. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

cpl sets the standard.
ever hear of cfg validator ?
dr.evil you dont have a clue what you are talking about, go play uk2.
big companies like intel have money to burn, and people who own cafes and what not often see sponsoring a team as a hobbie. [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

1) mr 12 is standard.
2) cpl sets the standard.
3) ever hear of cfg validator ?
1) MR 12 is standard at CPL. BW run a league with CO rules in some divisions, BY used a system that no one understands. Games Domain is using MR8 for a tournament and thats a money prize with finals on LAN.
2) CPL sets the standard for CPL and CAL. They jurisdiction goes that far alone.
3) Yes I have, but who says that anyone has to use it online.
IF 'big companies like intel have money to burn' why couldnt NiP get them as a sponsor?
In conclusion MR 12 is far from standard, CPLs rules dont apply outside of CPL and cfg checkers are pointless online.
And thats alex alright, he will moan about me mispelling his name next and call me a noob again no doubt. Whats a good UK2 IP btw? [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]

Yes I was talking about online as well as LAN. But a LAN tournament going on soon will use MR8 and a custom map for the final as far as I know. How standard is that? [ Comment: Report | IP: Logged ]
