The CPL website reports that the official Summer Championship Press Release has been, well, released. Here's an excerpt:

"Over 3,500 people are registered to attend, approximately 85 percent representing all 50 of the United States and 15 percent representing 63 countries including Canada, Germany, Brazil, Sweden, United Kingdom and Venezuela. With $100,000 in prize money, the competition is expected to be fierce.

With the CPL's Pentium 4 Summer Championship's record level attendance and big name sponsors, we are one step closer to elevating professional computer gaming to a full-fledged sport," said Angel Munoz, founder and president of the CPL. "Teams from all over the world will aggressively pursue their dream of pro-gaming -- a great way to celebrate what is now our fifth anniversary in the sport."
