Games-Fusion Petition

I'm sure most of you have heard of the controversy over at Games-Fusion.net. Where they are doing something that seems a tad bit illegal - taking skins made by people and selling the skins in a pack for their own profit. With the modelers and skinners basically getting screwed over.

So, while checking my email this morning, I got a letter from my buddy, Jemimus, and he told me all about this and a new petition that is up in an effort to destroy the Games-Fusion Gold Edition 7.0 Skins Pack (or whatever the name is). So go sign this petition. It might not do anything, or just might do something. But I'm gonna go write a letter...

	oblivion 17:36 12/7/2002	you guys seem to have somehow missed the point of what they are doing, they are not solely selling the skins but offering them to people who sign up to some form of membership available on the site. I am not assoicated with Games-Fusion in any shape or form but be sure to read carefully before jumping to conclusions... read the statement on their web page should hopefully clear up the whole situation for most people. So, if someone wants the skin pack that bad, they'll pay for it, so Games-Fusion will be making money off other's work. I'm not jumping to conclusions, you missed the whole point of the deal here. What they're doing is illegal. They are enticing people to get a membership to their crappy site just so a CS player can download that skin pack... From the Games-Fusion Site. Once you have a Gold Membership pass you will never need to pay again to download products from Games Fusion Download products that aren't even theirs. 	Marcus calibre 21:23 12/7/2002	coudln't this be viewed as a bit like fileplanet? u pay fileplanet to get a personal server, so u can download things quicker and without the wait, but the things obviously arn't theirs. if they are making u pay to download them, when they are avaliable elsewhere for free surely its similar? i'm probably wrong coz i haven't looked into what games-fusion are doing so this is probably some random s*** [ Comment: Report \| IP: Logged ]

If I were to download a song, burn it and then sell it to someone else for e PROFIT, then I would be doing the same thing as Games-Fusion. Most of us don't sell burned CDs to make money. You don't have to ask the skinners permission to download and use their skin, but I would hope a website would have the decency(sp?) to ask the creators of the skins and models if they could use them in a pack that profits the website. 	Obz 18:13 13/7/2002	the difference is.. skins are free.. music isnt.. downloading music off kazaa is the same as what these guys are doing because someone, somewhere along the line is getting ripped off. + kazaa are making money through the hundreds of banner adds / pop ups. But hey... kazaa is fine and this Games-Fusion.net is pure evil..... :/ I think eveyone has forgotton what kazaa is actually doing.. its just a part of life now.. 	alpha Da boss Inspired Gaming 18:31 13/7/2002	The difference is that KaZaA etc. are giving you music that should cost money, for free; whereas these Game Fushion people are making you pay for a collection of skins that are free individually. KaZaA are allowing people access to material they should pay for (for obviously they don't encourage the sharing of copyrighted material, yada yada yada), so the artists are getting ripped off, but Game Fushion are making money out of other people's work. If GF asked the authors of the skins first and gained permission, then all would be fine. I'm not sure what sort of ground they stand on legally, but I'd advise any other skin authors to start including a text file in the zip file of any future skins they produce saying something along the lines of "this skin can be freely distributed providing no charge is made, if you want to include my skin in a pay-for collection my permission is required".
